BarkingDog...

I suggest that you go back and reread the history books...

Yes the civil war was about States Rights, Federalism and Secession but the one issue that sparked the Civil War was the Norths (Congress) attempt to impose its will on the South in regards to SLAVERY...

So yes the civil war always was and always will be about SLAVERY...

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. -- George Santayana. (This is the correct form of the familiar quote that is often paraphrased.)

It is amazing how we not only forget our history, but we even see it rewritten for various politically correct motives. For instance, the p.c. concept that the confederate battle flag (which is NOT the Flag of the Confederacy) is some sort of racist symbol. Robert E. Lee, who even p.c. history admits was the superior general of the War between the States, actually freed his own slaves before the war began. The Civil War was not ABOUT slavery; it was about federalism, states rights, and secession. Far more Americans died in the Civil War (over half a million) than in any of our other wars. We should remind ourselves why and how this happened. Our kids in school today are taught little or nothing about U.S. history. They can't locate Kansas on a map, let alone Vietnam. Where is this leading us? Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
