Pastor Objects To Billboard Featuring Naked Buttocks
“A bidet company’s advertising plans in Times Square are too cheeky for the pastor of a nearby church.
Rev. Neil Rhodes, pastor of the interdenominational Times Square Church, is asking a state court to block a billboard company from posting huge ads that feature naked buttocks with smiley faces on them. The display is to go up on two sides of the Broadway building that houses Rhodes’ church, its Bible school and day-care center.”
Let’s get to the bottom of this interesting story from Reuters. The Big Apple has many intractable problems, why is a minister wasting time, effort and money to block a billboard company from posting an ad he finds objectionable?
I’ve been to Times Square, there are many homeless people in the vicinity who could benefit from the love and attention of Rev. Rhodes and his congregation.
There are many things more distressing than a naked hiney with or without a smiley face. Why isn’t the good pastor protesting the Iraq war or lamenting the lack of affordable health care?
Reuters quotes Rev Rhodes as saying:
“You walk into a church building, you have naked bodies before your eyes, how are you going to close your eyes and seek God?”
If you close your eyes all you are going to see is your own inner demons; to see God (whatever that may mean to you) you have to open your eyes and see the beauty surrounding you.
Some folks might even see God in a billboard displaying buttocks; I haven’t seen the buttocks in question so I don’t know how likely that scenario may be.
My advice to Rev. Rhodes:
Dude get a grip! Your church is located in Times Square, the freakin’ billboard capital of the world; I’m sure those smiley buttocks aren’t the only interesting body parts on display. If a billboard featuring a naked rear end offends you, move your church out in the middle of a cow pasture.
