amfortas is right. Nowak is not a model citizen, but to compare her to Scott Peterson is apples and oranges. He was convicted of murder. At most she planned to kill someone, did a few things in preparation for same and was stopped before she could harm anyone. If I were her attorney, I'd point out that getting angry, wearing diapers and driving to Florida are not crimes.

"Then there is the issue of contingency. Are medals for past performance contingent on being a good boy/girl subsequent to the performance so recognised?"

Good point!
Cassius Clay
Miss America
Nobel Prize
Drivers and Professional licence.
Teachers certificates
Social Security
"Conduct unbecoming" is CERTAINLY a platform halting ANY further recognition of meeting the criteria of honored member of a governing body, "Just being there"? Yeah, OK. That always looks good on a resume or CV.

"This case needs gender equality applied; the bimbo must go."

ABSOLUTELY NOT tonysprout. It isn't gender equality we want if that means everyone is equally screwed by unethical, unprincipled law. What we NEED is a reversion to the basic principles of law for all; equality before just and reasonable, impartial law; for ALL.

More evidence of feminist attitude (man bad, woman good) in American government, where a female criminal is honored.

Yes. If a man had tried to kill/kidnap someone…

"...accused of a crime is considered innocent ..."
This is our strict belief as well, but when it's a gender thing, the male loses. See Duke rape case where the accused were told to leave campus. Men are fired all the time just for being accused of a crime. Glenn is correc t. This case needs gender equality applied; the bimbo must go. Katie Couric receives the same treatment, while a man whould have been let go immediately. "Accused of a crime is considered innocent" is a fine thing for politicians to mouth in front of cameras. The double standard is EFFING disgusting in the land of the free, home of the brave, and planet of the femi-fearful.

Fair do's Glenn, let's not create yet another confused standard, I know it is a quaint old principle, but a person accused of a crime is considered innocent until their guilt is proven beyond reasonable doubt.

The prosecution farago (yet to be furthered) and the arrest handling may well have been 'kid glove' treatment - and be almost farcically lenient compared to the Duke boys - but that is an issue to take up with the DA, not NASA.

Meanwhile, Nowak is a member of the team and being mildly honoured for her contributions. The NASA medals are as the medals of the Military, lower level ones often given out for simply 'being there'. Crikey, I have a few myself!

Then there is the issue of contingency. Are medals for past performance contingent on being a good boy/girl subsequent to the performance so recognised?
