Solar Deniers Attempt to Eclipse Global Warming Documentary
On the very day before the British documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle was to hit Aussie TV screens, the Royal Society published the work of 2 scientists who claim to have disproved its core position – that the actions of the sun, not humans, cause global warming. And, unlike the countless studies which support solar forcing theories, this one you most definitely WILL be hearing about from the mainstream media.
Following a week of press leaks, Mike Lockwood and Claus Fröhlich have submitted a paper to Proceedings of the Royal Society A, which admits that:
“There is considerable evidence for solar influence on the Earth’s pre-industrial climate and the Sun may well have been a factor in post-industrial climate change in the first half of the last century.”
However, observe they, the sun’s magnetic field has declined since 1985, even as the world heats up. It is the “rapid rise in global mean temperatures” during this 22 year period ALONE which they claim “cannot be ascribed to solar variability.”
Imagine that– less than a quarter of a century? Even though old Sol has been bombarding us with its warming rays for over 4.5 billion years and clear Sun/Climate correlations have been observed spanning millennia.
Of course, it will take a little time for fellow scientists to absorb, analyze and respond to their 14 page report, right? Well, not quite – particularly when there was a pesky contrarian opinion about to be broadcast to a new continent of potential Gore-bots the very next day.
So, faster than you can say “Solar Resonant Diffusion Waves,” University of Melbourne climate scientist David Karoly smugly blurted out that [emphasis added]:
“These findings completely refute the allegations made by some pseudo-scientists that all recent global warming is due to solar effects.”
Incidentally, Dr. Karoly was scheduled to join a panel arguing the assertions of the documentary immediately following its broadcast on Australia’s ABC Thursday night. Any guesses which side the longtime IPCC contributor might be taking?
And Stefan Rahmstorf, who once referred to awful The Day After Tomorrow scriptwriter Jeffrey Nachmanoff as “well-informed about the science and politics of global climate change,” didn’t let any ice melt under his feet either. The ever-alarmed climate scientist from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany claimed an immediate, albeit macabre, victory:
“This paper is the final nail in the coffin for people who would like to make the sun responsible for present global warming”
Ouch — final nail in the coffin? Sure, enviro-mental-case Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently referred to AGW skeptics as traitors, but do he and his fellow alarmists really want us all stood up against a wall and offered a last big-bad-industry-pushed cancer-causing smoke?
Meanwhile, right on cue and despite the fact that these were the freshly published opinions of but 2 men (enough for a consensus?), eager Greenhouse Gas passers set to work on triumphant headlines, exemplified by:
• Sun not behind global warming
• Solar Radiation Didn’t Cause Recent Global Warming, Study Shows
• Solar activity cleared of global warming blame
• Sun’s activity rules out link to global warming
• ‘No Sun link’ to climate change
Not surprisingly, little such fanfare was awarded last month’s fine work by noted Paleoclimatologist R. Timothy Patterson or the myriad others that tell the exact opposite story. But then, why would there be? The sheer simplicity of solar impact makes it public enemy number one to the scare-mongers.
Last weekend’s dismal Live Earth concerts were yet another attempt to forward the green agenda and silence dissent – this time with thunderous overture, silly mantras put to driving beats, and flash-in-the-pan special effects.
Now it seems they fear the truth that one well-made documentary might convey and, therefore, feel the need to squash it beneath more pageantry. How pathetic.
Nevertheless, while tomorrow is sure to bring a world of reasoned retort, I would wager a case of sun-screen that the real hysteria over this paper hasn’t yet begun.

Nice post Marc.
I haven’t bought into the Global Warming crap for years now. Ever since I found that if you look at papers dating back to the late 1800’s about every 30-40 years its: Global warming, The Next Ice Age is coming, Global warming, The next Ice age, etc.. The climate is cyclic and in 10 years people will be screaming that humans are causing global cooling. It’s the only real platfom the Dems and media have left (even if it is made up) so they are preemptively shooting down all opposition. Such as trying to have a bill passed preventiving private companys from spending thier own funds on research de-bunking global warming. As another writer stated (sorry can’t remember your name but the credits all yours) I wouldn’t call it global warming…I’d call it summer.

I enjoy watching the weather these days. Has anyone noticed that otherwise unremarkable summer temps are often referred to as “Near record temperatures”. Wow, that was truly helpful, thanks weather chick! Near record… what exactly does that really mean? Darn it’s hot outside, but not that hot…yet!
Funny, record cold temps in winter don’t get the same attention.

Or the fact it just snowed in Johannesberg for the first time since 1918. Hmmm. That’s odd if it’s getting warmer….Especially in the middle of summer

I have a degree in science but I am very skeptical of science now. I was working at a university and I found that my boss, the professor, was omitting information about problems with his research so that he could keep the grant money coming in. When I discovered this I was fired.
So science is only a good as the honesty of the people who do it. And how do we know who we are dealing with?

Sorry tv2112, but it’s not summer in Johannesburg.

Now if I remember correctly the Sahara desert was not always a desert. In fact is was much wetter than it is now.
Australia in its ancient past was a much wetter continent than it is now.
Climate change has come and gone, civilisations rose and fell according to the climate, and all this happened before the industrial revolution and the multiple use of fossil fuels.
Sure humans have had an impact on this planet and there must be some restriction and a large effort made to reduce polution, to stop us from being posioned by our own waste.
Even if climate change is a swindle, I do think the world would benefit from reducing polution overall.

James said: “Now if I remember correctly the Sahara desert was not always a desert. In fact is was much wetter than it is now.”
A friend of mine said the Romans turned the Sahara into a desert by exploitation. I presume he meant cutting down trees and not replanting.
If so, man can have a major impact on the environment. The real problem with burning fossil fuels is not global warming but pollution and the fact that we are using up non-renewable resources at a rapid clip, and we still don’t know how to meet our energy needs once those resource are gone.
The damage caused by those that hype up the problem is that they distract our attention from the real issues and the real solutions. Also, when people see through the hype they become skeptical. So they are betraying a “public trust” (for lack of a better term).

the feminine material culture of the U.S. and western europe is the main cause of global warming!!

When will this continuously relentless and never-endingly mind-numbing harang ever stop? This “global warming” is the schoolyard idiot’s dialectical diatribe in the auditorium with the pom pom girls cheering him on in his weird science.
Every one human being understands this universal truth: The sun warms the earth.
Yes, boys and girls the sun warms the earth!
So what is this evasive and seemingly incorrect logic of men warming the earth? This intensely held belief that men cause the earth to warm over any effects of our mighty sun?
Oh!…….Wait!…….I’ve got it! EMOTIVE INSISTANCE!

I watched the ABC (Oz) program and Tony Jones’ interview of the film’s author. There was a studio audience afterward listening to a panel of experts that included David Karoly, ’smugly’ capturing the limelight. Crikey, he has an annoying grin. Thank God he didn’t laugh. I swear it would have been a bray.
Jones, a senior reporter/presenter, asked a lot of searching questions, taking several painstaking minutes constructing each question with 5 or 6 subordinate clauses, half a dozen names and several report references; then when the author/producer tried to answer, Jones continually cut him off mid-sentence after 20-30 seconds, with a ‘yes, but… and another long winded, complex question. The poor fellow barely managed one full reply.
Several panel members tried to mount a defense of the doco but were over-ruled and belittled. The audience, too, was stacked for effect. Several ‘hippy’ looking people scattered amongst it looked like Greeny plants until it became apparant that their main bag was anti-eugenics and were made to look fools. Hardly suprising.
One hilarious part was Jones taking him to task on a graph which apparantly has the last few years data not shown, Temperature rises. The ABC had put an exponential curve line in to represent the missing data! Bold as friggin’ brass.

The main cause of global warming is, of course, all this hot air that’s being released into the atmosphere by all this STUPID POLITICAL…er, well, you know what I mean. Once the presidential election is over, we’ll get a brief spell before the next round starts, but since it gets worse every time, I’d say we’re pretty much doomed.
