Another ‘Men as Lousy Parents’ TV Commercial

Ned Holstein of Fathers & Families first pointed out the “Man Mom” advertising campaign to me. The campaign is for Combos Snacks, and is another example of the common TV theme of men as irresponsible, uncaring parents.

In the ads, whatever the problem (illness, stress, whatever) the only solution the male parent can come up with is Combos Snacks–”what your mom would feed you if your mom were a man.”

Not every anti mail commercial is necessarily bad. I did not see this one, but I see a lot of commercials where men a picked fun of . Some are cute and some are just plain offensive .
What we must not do, is over react like the feminist have! The feminist have tried to enforce a “gestapo” like clamp on free speech. Oh…. you can’t say that about women or you can ‘t portray women that way. This has lead to the belief that they are special and that none of the rules apply to them. They can do whatever and everyone else has to walk around on egg shells.
I don’t ever want to become that way. I don’t like and will not tolerate being attacked and having to put up with offensive behavior directed at me or any other man/father. But I will noy go around, trying to be the “political correctnes Gestapo”
I understand and will try to teach women what rights really are and the basic rules reguarding having rights. Ie. your rights end where someone elses begin, that rights come with responsibilities attached and that rights should not be converted to priviledges, so someone can take them away. That Rights are God given and constitutional ie the “LAW OF THE LAND” and that is not negotiable. That you shouldn’t give up any right at all. That I would prefer to live in a free society that has risk that come with living in it.

i must respectfully diagree with stevens. in my opinion, “all” negative advertising to include sitcoms, movies and newsprint is 100% unexceptable until the balance is 50/50. as of now, i see it about 95/5 and that to me is a no brainer. not ok to bash the women you say? good, then lets ban all of it abd still brings it back to my 50/50 number. there are other ways to adv with humor. thats my 2 cents worth.

i double checked my spelling and it still came out wrong. is that possible?

There were many things wrong with that commercial, but frankly, the fact that it didn’t really make a lot of sense to me was probably the main reason I hated it so much. I really, really hate commercials that don’t make sense, and it seems like there are a lot of them out there right now. I am a woman, and a mother, and under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t have a problem giving my kids Combos for a snack (and in fact I have done that in the past). But the kid in this commercial was complaining of having a fever, for pete’s sake! How is giving him Combos going to help that? Give him something good to spew all over the place, maybe? Give me a break!

I personally don’t see anything bad about this commercial. I am pretty sensitive about anti-male stuff, but I don’t really see it here.

What really bothers me is when they take a common female weakness and attribute it to a man so they can exploit that trait but not offend women.

Have you seen the currently running Kia commercial where a guy is sitting with his girlfriend with a very timid look on his face while the intelligent girlfriend sitting next to him with her notebook computer is saying all good things about Kia-Matching? Then the guy says in a real timid voice and a matching look on his face, “It made me feel so safe”.

Every time I see this commercial I want to puke! But of course it’s aimed at women so women have to be the smart one of the two and the man who doesn’t want the Kia has to be timid and stupid. After all, how many men would by a Kia?

    Whoops!

That last “by” in my last sentence should be “buy”.
