    Rizzo,

The media focus on behavior, not gender. There are more occurrences of MissBehaving — with more-frequent repeat performances and greater skin exposure. Drama and fame are what the cameras follow, period.

Britney Spears showed her bare vagina to the media four times in one week and was never prosecuted for indecent exposure. Is that not a double standard? Katie Couric slapped a male subordinate and was never prosecuted — AND, the media never covered the story. Double standard? You bet … with an interesting twist: she committed battery against a man. Escaping prosecution from a DUI would outrage the nation. Escaping prosecution for hurting a man is something the media want to overlook.

Paris Hilton cannot get enough of the camera. Lindsay Lohan the same. What camera doesn’t want to capture repeat stupidity of bad girls?

When Arnold was running for governor of California, some women from his past tried to smear him. The cameras dogged him for months. Months. Same happened to Bill Clinton. Last I checked, these are men.

When you add it up, female stars get into more trouble, more often, showing more skin than men. Women are constantly MissBehaving — because they think America loves it, and they are correct. THAT is why they are constantly in the news.

  • Rizzo

While I, sort of, agree with Lis that the media do like focusing on the transgressions of women, particularly young ones (the media like focusing on young women, period, positive or negative), I think Marc brought up the key point, and that is recidivism. When some famous guy gets in trouble he deals with it, doesn’t make excuses, and usually apologizes for his behavior. When women get caught, they act like victims and spoiled brats. I think that leads to much of the fascination with the actions of young female celebrities. People like seeing a spoiled brat get her comeuppance. A guy who gets caught, apologizes, and serves whatever sentence he receives without complaint is kind of a boring story. A woman who does something stupid, gets caught, acts like a victim, cries about it, and generally acts as if she believes she is above the law is a gift that keeps on giving to the media.

Anyway, job well done Marc. I was actually prepared to agree with Lis on this one, but you changed my mind.

who buys lipstick by the megaton? make-up? who has 50 pairs of shoes? who talks on the phone more (anytime, anyday, any topic )? who buys brighter cloths? who clicks their heels on hard floors to grab the attention of others? who shows more skin, on a regular basis with their choice of wardrobe? who wears bright red nail polish and who do they where it for? who wears gaudy earrings? who wears flashy sunglasses ala elton john? who wears see thru blouses and black bras at the same time? on and on and on.

rudov is not only correct, anyone who doesn’t see it is too stoopit for words, or has an agenda that is as obvious as a purple, pink and yellow neck scarf with matching boots and mittens in january.

with all do respect of course.

I think it’s very logical girls crave attention. Why? They’ve got something very basic biological to advertise, to get something from the men. That’s right, I’m describing procreation.

After some decades of ‘equality’, entitlement and inadequate parents, it’s no surprise to me it’s getting out of hand.

  • http://thenononsenseman.mensnewsdaily.com Marc H. Rudov

Given the same opportunity tomorrow, I would repeat my line that all girls crave attention.

  • infidel

BQ said: “I do have to ask what you feel is served by using phrases such as ‘all you girls crave attention’ (along those lines).”

Assuming Marc said that, you have a point there BQ. Hey, all humans like some attention. I know some *guys* who are super attention hogs, so I don’t think it’s just a girl thing at all.

Anyway, I think Marc handles himself well in these debates and it’s hard to speak off the cuff and do it perfectly every time.

    anti armchair generals,

Give me a break. The reason men get short shrift in the media is that they rarely protest about the negative portrayal of men. They sit there, drink beer, whine on MND, and then drop it.

When there is a topic to discuss, in a specific article such as this one (actually, it is a TV appearance) you must stick to the topic. Veering off the topic is a good way to get ignored and receive short shrift.

Men are never going to destroy misandry until they focus like a laser beam with conviction over the long haul. Men tend to whine and complain to themselves and amongst themselves, but never take effective action — a total waste of time.

This TV appearance of mine is about whether the Hollywood media favor bad boys over bad girls. It is not about anything else.

If you want to discuss anything else, you are free to become an author to write your own articles.

    Mark H. Rudov,
I apologize for not readin the fine print (like in car warraty contracts) and went with the headline “Hollywood”. In MND it is not written but expected to be self understood.
That’s why men get a short shrift in the media. Editors, reporters amd pundids decide what is important and others are voices in wilderness. I also took the handle “anti armchair generals” for that reason because those who have a forum, pontificate about what is called “journalistic herd instinct”
That’s why Paul Weaver’s book “News and the Culture of Lying” is such an eye opener

    The Biscuit Queen,

First, please allow me to address a pet peeve of mine: media is a plural, not singular, word. The singular form is medium. Many broadcasters mistakenly use the word media. It is incorrect to say the media is, the media does, the media slants, etc. The media are, the media do, the media slant are correct forms.

Second, the way to be an effective communicator is to say as little as possible, in as short a space or timespan as possible, and to be noticed, remembered, and quoted. So, I respectfully disagree with your premise about effective communication.

    anti armchair generals,

Your question has nothing to do with this topic. Please stick with the topic at hand.

    saturday, 11:45am….rudov 56 to 44. thats a good thing.

Marc, I agree with your position here that the media does not care who they feature, as long as it makes them money. I think the Bill Clinton example was a good one, and Lis is seeing only the last few months as opposed to years of sometimes men being targetted, sometimes women. I totally agree with you that the three train wrecks are attention whores; their love of the party life and their continued repeat infractions and bids for attention even after jail time is proof. Lis kept trying to make it sound like they did one big thing and then all the rest of the attention put on them was about jail-however there were repeated flaunts to the media, and the court process was a small part of that.

I do have to ask what you feel is served by using phrases such as “all you girls crave attention” (along those lines). Even though I totally agree with your stance it was alienating a bit to hear a negative global generalization like that; I imagine as it is for you guys to hear similar rhetoric from feminists. Is there a reason you feel that helps your arguement? To me it would have been more effective to target these women, and add in perhaps some examples of women who have done one wrong thing then cleaned up and thus left the spotlight.

But as I have said before, you are the one doing this-you get my respect for doing it and doing it well.

Hollywood is about to launch number of movies about the Iraq War, acccording to the NYT. Some are similar to movies about Vietnam War after it ended, such as “Born on the 4th of July.” What to you think about the new crop even before the Iraq War has ended? Link to NYT

I am so happy to see that Lis had her snaggy loose hair ends trimmed.

She is so much more credible now! ;-)
