My Family Has Two Houses…and I’m Okay

Our misguided opponents often portray shared parenting arrangements as being chaotic and harmful to kids. One thing I like about Sharon Shenker’s children’s book My Family Has Two Houses is its affirming message that a child can have a meaningful relationship with both parents–including a balance of physical time at each house–and have a good childhood. It’s a message our kids need to hear.

Many (but not enough) of the readers of this blog have shared parenting arrangements–I’d be interested to hear more about how it is working for your kids. How do you feel they benefit? What are the drawbacks?

(To learn more about Shenker’s children’s book, click on My Family Has Two Houses. To learn more about the research on shared parenting, see my co-authored column HB 5267 Will Help Michigan’s Children of Divorce, Lansing State Journal, 5/28/06).
