Society’s ‘Woman Good/Man Bad’ Norm on Reproductive Issues

This editorial cartoon pretty well sums up society’s “woman good/man bad” norm on reproductive issues. I expounded on this at greater length in my co-authored column Respect a Man’s Choice, Too (8/1/06) for the left-wing website AlterNet. I wrote:

“….5 million American women legally walk away from motherhood every year through adoption, abortion or abandonment. In over 40 states mothers can completely opt out of motherhood by returning unwanted babies to the hospital shortly after birth. If men like [Choice for Men lawsuit plaintiff Matt] Dubay are deadbeats and deserters, what are these women?

“Whenever a child is born outside of the context of a loving, two-parent family, there are no good solutions. [Feminist critic Kai] Ma overstates her case, but she is correct that ‘Choice for Men’ is a flawed solution. However, the current regime, which provides women with a variety of choices and men with none, is also flawed.

“Dubay’s conduct is not particularly admirable, and he’s certainly not a candidate for father of the year; however, he does have a point. Over the past four decades women’s advocates have successfully made the case that it is wrong to force a pregnancy on an unwilling mother. Despite the backlash against Dubay, hopefully his lawsuit will result in a greater societal awareness that it is also wrong to force a pregnancy on an unwilling father.”

    Glenn,

Bravo! This is clearly a huge issue which does not get enough attention. We need this in the forefront for debate. Men have no rights, basically only obligations, women have all the rights and optionally the obligations. In fact, in most cases fathers are squeezed so injustly for support that the women can pay someone for her obligations (i.e. the kid is always in daydcare or being raised by a ‘nanny’).

Love this term ‘nanny’ btw – sounds so warm and fuzzy – let’s be real, this is a stranger paid to take care of your child who may or may not have any interest in that childs well being.

I have been wondering what ever happened to the Dubay case. I hadn’t heard anything on the news, which does not surprize me. I predicted his case would fall to the wayside and the “terrorist ” would keep right on stealing from men to support the “rights” ( they ARE NOT RIGHTS, they are priviledges the state has unwisely granted only to women) of women.
Choice for anyone woman or man is a bad idea. Abortion is murder(period). That is not me saying that, that is Almighty Gods Judgment and yes he has the right to decide that reguardless of what the Supreme Court says
Choice puts the child last and that is primarily what is wrong with the system now!
When life starts to mean nothing, it becomes easier and easier to ” do away” with the rights and ultimately the lives of anyone deemed unneeded or unwanted.
That is what has happened to father/men and to children.
The solution is simple, but hard. We go back to common law and the U.S. Constitution. Treat all life and the rights of all people as sacred. Start holding women to the same standard of accountability as men.
Step two create and mass distribute a “mans birth control pill” and other means for a man to control his fertility. Give him the “choice to say no” to having children he does not want and is not ready to commit to raising.
Step three, if he does choose to have children, pass then enforce civil rights laws to protect his right( and yes it is a right, a real one) to be a real parent regaurdless of his marital status or if he lives with the mother of his child or not. And yes it will have to be sternly enforced. I forsee a lot of women having to be prosecuted and sent to prison for violating those rights and we will have to put severe punishments on government official who have in the past openlyand without fear of reprisal, violated the basic rights of fathers/ men. It will have to be made clear, you violate a mans right to be a parent and we will come down very hard on you. You will be punished!!
Fourth, we will have get rid off most of the ” DO mestic VIO lence’ laws, since they are openly discrimantory against men and will have to take away and outlaw the making of special “rights” for women that men don’t have. Equality will have to mean just that . There will be no special treatment for anyone.
The women ain’t gonna like it and the “terrorist” who run the GiSKER( government sponsored kidnapping and extortion racket) damn sure won’t like it, but all of us who have been violated and victimized by this God awful racket will certainly approve of it and support it.
It won’t easy or quick, I suspect those who have been on top of this little racket are going to fight like hell to keep the status quo, but they will lose. The only question is? How long is that going to take and can society hold on long enough for that to happen.

    Completely agreed, Glenn.

That’s why I call men’s unwanted fatherhood “reproductive rape”.
