Politically incorrect speech on the subject of AIDS, and many other topics …

If you live in a jurisdiction that enforces political correctness, consult your human rights advisor about whether you are permitted to read any of the following items of information:

Robert Knight asks the questions many won’t ask about AIDS:

One would think a 10 percent failure rate against a 100 percent fatal disease would continue to make news, but the stat has disappeared into a media black hole.
Likewise, the media decline to dig deeply into alleged success claims for needle-exchange programs. All three leading Democratic presidential candidates have pledged to increase federal money for needle giveaway programs, yet reporters seem to lack curiosity about whether these programs actually work.

If “works” means “creates jobs for adminbots”, the answer is yes. Otherwise, well, not in any universe contiguous with ours, or not any time soon.

The straight dope (so to speak) on intelligence by James Flynn:

Despite all the triumphs of the concept of general intelligence, I believe intelligence is like the atom: you have to know both why its parts cohere and why they sometimes fly apart. Americans made massive IQ gains on the WISC between 1947 and 2002 amounting to almost 18 points of Full Scale IQ. These gains ranged from only 2 points on the WISC subtest called Information to 24 points on the subtest called Similarites (what do dogs and rabbits have in common?), despite the fact that both have the cognitive complexity that makes them good measures of g.
