Liberal Talk Show Hosts Stewart and Colbert Scab on Writers’ Strike
One of the fundamental principles of the left is that you don’t scab on strikes, but I guess that doesn’t mean too much to liberal talk show hosts Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, both darlings of the left. They recently announced that they are scabbing on the writers’ strike.
Yes, I understand that they’re in a competitive business and are often under great pressure, but it doesn’t seem like much of a way for Stewart and Colbert to treat the men who helped make them what they are today. And I can guarantee you that if they are some of the other big boys who are scabbing–Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel–instead said, “We won’t work with scabs,” the strike would be over much, much sooner.

Not putting people out of work is another liberal value. Many of their non-writing workers would be laid off if they didn’t come back. Unless they actually write something for the show they’re still on strike, even if they do start back on television in January. When they just interview or improv the lines, and no pen touches paper, they are following the guidelines of the Writer’s guild.
