This week the government of Moldova approved an awareness-raising strategy on Moldova’s integration into the European Union.
The strategy was put forward by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, which argued that the people must be informed about the European integration.
The draft strategy informs that at the moment Moldova does not have any type of EU information structure for the public and the information is not properly and systematically targeted or disseminated. Taking into consideration the fact that EU integration is the number one priority for the government of Moldova, the strategy suggests methods and ways to improve the situation and offer to the citizens of Moldova active participation in the process.
The strategy objective of the new information infrastructure shall be to create an integrated system of EU information provision. The new information infrastructure will include such projects about EU – Moldova cooperation like information centers, free phone line, website, information bulletins, library, etc. Public contests will be held to select the economic entities that will implement these projects, as the government cannot fully finance the implementation of the strategy. The projects also envision the instruction of journalists, press officers, and functionaries working in the local public administration.
The strategy was worked out with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Eurasia Foundation.
