Unbelievable–Sheriff Doesn’t Believe Man Is Quadriplegic, so She Dumps Him Out of His Wheelchair

In watching this video it’s hard to believe you’re seeing what you’re seeing. The video is here. The story from Tampa Bay 10 News is below. Notice how the man is caught completely by surprise.

It really makes you wonder about police culture when you see this woman’s outrageous behavior and then see another cop laughing as he walks by.

No, it’s not a gender issue, but I do think it’s far less likely that they would have treated a crippled woman this way.

Thanks to the various readers who sent it to me.

Deputy now suspended after dumping man from wheelchair
By: Mike Deeson

Tampa, Florida – The Hillsborough Co. Sheriff’s Office held a press conference at 10:30am regarding the deputy who can be seen on video dumping a man in a wheelchair onto the ground.

They’ve announced that Deputy Charlette Jones has been relieved of her duties without pay pending the outcome of an investigation.  She has not officially been terminated.

Jones has been employed by the Hillsborough Co. Sheriff’s Office since 1996.

Chief Deputy Joe Docobo watched the video for the first time last night and said he found himself in “disgust” and was “appalled at every level.”

Docobo also announced that two corporals and a sergeant involved are now on administrative leave with pay, and the jail supervisor on duty did not have knowledge of the incident.

Brian Sterner broke his neck almost 14 years ago and is a quadriplegic.

Sterner, who can drive, was arrested on a traffic violation. When he was booked into the Orient Road Jail last month, Sterner couldn’t believe what happened.
He says a deputy looked at him and didn’t believe he was a quadriplegic. She walked behind him, took the handles on the back of the hospital-grade wheel chair and dumped it forward.

Sterner says he tried to roll as he was going down, but hit so hard he thought he had broken two ribs. Then, while he was on the floor, deputies frisked him and tried to get him back into the chair.

Sterner says he told them how to pick him up and put him back into the chair, but because he can’t feel anything from his breastbone down, he says he was injured and didn’t know it. Sterner thought he had broken two ribs, but jail x-rays showed that wasn’t true.

If anyone should be able to win a law suit…this man sure enough should. I also suggest that this sheriff needs to find another job but I do not think PETA would stand for her to be the dog catcher! I also think he should file assult charges on her.

I bet they get medals and promotions because they are black females doing this to a white male.

Medals, Big Shooter. Oh, you mean the Feminist Misandry Justice medal pinned to their chests in a very fast ceremony.

Bullshit Glenn. This IS a gender and race issue.

You damn well know that if this was a white male doing it to a black female those particular cards would be waving high!

But because it’s an ‘empowered’ female officer, black at that, oh and of course it’s only a white male… BAH! We don’t need no steekin’ reports!

Wanna take a bet on what her punishment will end up being? Here, i’ll give you a hint… her job back with backpay and a raise…

Come on.. we know it, and you know it.

Exactly Amfortas. Can you imagine if a white male did this to a black woman? There would be SCREAMING HEADLINES all over the country and Nancy “Grace” would be going apoplectic. We would have Duke 2.0 and calls for removing all male gurads from interacting with female inmates and needless to say, NOW likening the incident to rape.

    Not surprisingly,

“Twice before, in 1988 and 1990, the Sheriff’s Office suspended Marshall-Jones without pay. Her personnel file documents those disciplinary problems and others.

In the first incident, she improperly conducted an inmate head count and was suspended for six days. In the later incident, she disobeyed a boss’ order to complete a fire safety and sanitation inspection. The consequence: a one-day suspension.

Superiors have criticized her use of sick leave. Her record contains a few letters of reprimand for violations of Sheriff’s Office procedure.

But most of the 345-page file offers no hint of the woman seen in the video. Year after year, supervisors recommended Marshall-Jones for promotions and boosted her pay. In page after page of annual reviews, they used words such as “dedicated” and “knowledgeable.”

There are 22 pages of commendations, certificates and flattering letters from supervisors and Hillsborough residents. In 2003, the Sheriff’s Office named Marshall-Jones one of the November “Employees of the Month.”

Just nine days before the Sterner arrest, Marshall-Jones’ supervisor praised her “excellent searches, handling of inmates and communication skills.”

The supervisor was Sgt. Hinson, who was suspended with her Tuesday. ”

I agree truthwarrior. I have worked in corporate America for 10 years. A woman- especially a black woman is untouchable and they know it. We had a lesbian fire chief in Minneapolis who had 5 complaints of sexual harrasment against her from other women- it took the city nine months to demote her to captain. It would have taken 1 complaint and 9 seconds to fire a white male.

This should not be a “race” issue, atleast not in the conventional definition of the word. The deputy isn’t even acting like a member of the human race, you see people are people and race does not matter, not really.
This person needs to be fired , prosecuted and her dept needs to face multi- million dollar civil penalty. They should have fired her before, instead they had to let her do this to some poor crippled up man. So no… it should not be an issue of “race” it should be an issue of right and wrong. We should not give “special protection” to specific groups of people simply because of their “race” ( God I hate that term) or other special conditions. Then let those special people run over all us not so special people. If they act up, fire them and do away with all the Unconstutional and phony laws, that let them get away with it. Go back to right and wrong and stop appoligizing to these”special people” off the backs and at the expense of the rights of all us not so special people.

If it were like this…you can be sure Sharpton and Jackson would be camped out down there and by now the streets would be flowing with protesters yet somehow we can not get half the numbers of protesters in a year of planing.

    Shattered,

I know.. quite disheartening isn’t it?
