I finally saw the 1972 film that has become a cult classic and did much to launch the popularity of the slasher film, Wes Cravens notorious Last House on the Left. The DVD I watched had a special feature that included interviews with several of the principals from this movie.
Lucy Granthams performance as victim Phyllis Stone was powerful and right on the money. Grantham perfectly played Phyllis as a streetwise and savvy yet ultimately kind-hearted teen girl. She captured the spirit of a smart-talking and wisecracking teenager while at the same time lending her character both a winsome sense of vulnerability and a powerful will to survive.
In the special interviews on the DVD I saw, Grantham stood out from the others interviewed in one very significant respect. All of them looked older and, as most people do when they age, less attractive. Like most folks in middle-age and beyond, they were wrinkled and gray. Lucy Grantham had actually gotten more attractive with maturity. She was pretty when she played Phyllis Stone; she was a beauty when interviewed about it many years later, perhaps because she was a bit thin and had filled out over the years without getting heavy.
Grantham also made a very interesting revelation about the famous piss your pants scene in which her character is forced by the gang of thugs to urinate on herself. Grantham said, There was no bag with a urine-like substance. This was the real McCoy. This seems to indicate that she actually urinated on herself for the sake of making a movie. That would mean that Lucy Grantham is an actress who will really go the extra mile for the sake of her craft.
Does anyone know why this talented and attractive actress did not continue in the acting profession? It seems to me a true loss to cinema.

When you consider what some “actresses” are willing to do in porno films for the sake of making a buck, pissing in one’s pants is not particularly any great stretch of acting, Denise.
Actresses such as Scarlett Johansson actually get annoyed if their script does not call for nudity.
Truth be told, with graphics manipulation capabilities today that were not available back in 1972, Lucy could have been spared the “ordeal” if she were to try to re-enact that scene today.
No doubt they’re also willing to “go the extra mile for the sake of their crafts”…..;-)
I will not argue whether Lucy looked better as she became older.
Most women do not, but of course there are exceptions to that rule, just as there are to any other one.
And then there’s the issue of what “attractive” means for you, a woman, as opposed to what it means to me, a man, Denise……
Many women would find actresses like Meg Ryan to be “attractive”.
Most men would rate one of Sport’s Illustrated Swimsuit Issue finalists as “attractive”….. or more likely “hot!”.
I don’t know why Lucy Grantham did not continue acting. IMDB is certainly very sparse on details of her life.

I think Meg Ryan is very attractive, and that little lip curl thing is incredibly sexy. Sure, she is not a “topless club” esque type…but its not just women that find her attractive friend.
Aside from urinating on herself, did someone’s John Thomas actually have to be bitten off there near the end of that movie? Or were we using latex effectively in ‘72?

The question certainly ranks up there as one of my more pressing questions. Just the other morning I woke up and asked myself. “Hmmm…I wonder why Lucy Grantham never continued acting.”
But alas, I did get side-tracked. There are the o’le questions about:
Gee, Why are so many many American women vile self-centered bitches?
Why does a hellacious Senator who is a woman in 2007 still play the gender card?
Why do MEN keep keep giving and giving to vile self-centered ungrateful American women?
Why do we have to choose between an intemperate RINO, a radical marxist feminist c**t (in the words of Jane Fonda), or a novice smooth-talker to lead us?
Why do so many other countries not have such vile self-centered women like America has?
When the heck will American women stop bitching about everything and anything?
When will American women stop blaming all men for their worthless messed up live?
I have a list of about 50 more questions.
But when I have an answer about Lucy I’ll be sure to let you know.

I’m not arguing with a single point of yours, Denis. As you know, our opinions and perspectives agree so much that I often don’t even bother to post after I have read your words.
Denise often posts blogs that have exactly zero relevance with respect to men’s issues. I would not even dream of defending her on that particular point.
Having written that much, I would point out that at least Denise has enough testicular fortitude to TAKE such criticism.
Glenn Sacks would simply censor your last post:
- by refusing to allow it to be posted on his own site.
or
- by deleting the entire blog from MND.
Yes, Denise’s less-relevant (to Men’s issues) blogs are annoying but at least she has a bigger set of cujones than Sacks does.
Sacks wets his panties at the mere use of the word “bitch”, and censors accordingly.
Denise does not, for all of the irrelevance of her film-related blogs (irrelevant to men’s issues, that is….).
Keep the fire in your belly, my friend. Your posts remind me…. as well as others that there are STILL men out there who are pissed-off at American society’s mindless and ball-less kowtowing to women.

(Denise) That scene was indeed simulated. However, according to an interview on the DVD, to lend a sense of verisimilitude to it, the actor pulled part of his belt through his fly so that the actress was biting down on the belt while her character was supposedly biting off the penis.

Denise, I was quite certain it was simulated OR it would be required relaxation viewing in the Womens Studies Department.
Imagine….”Girls, you can vicariously experience the physical emasculation of a man, a vile man who is raping a woman, she bites his (useless) appendage off and you can watch this….ice cream and other fattening foods will be served”

I agree with you about Glenn. Glenn lives in California. Maybe that explains it. Feminism is extremely dominant in Kalifornia and the vast majority of men have been infected. There ain’t no more rugged cowboys in Kalifornia.
As you know I don’t sugarcoat what I post. And I’m usually combative. Anyone who can take my style without curling up has some measure of respect from me.
Good seeing you back man.
