To help get rid of some of the poverty we need to find children of kindergarten age, from poor families, that show some ability and then we need to volunteer to help them and their families make sure that during the first few years of school they learn to read and write well. By third grade, for boys in particular, if they don't have those skills, you can bet 95 % of them won't catch up with their classmates by graduation from high school.

Even if they do fail in high school, those that learn to read and write decently can find work later and go back to school, but it's a real long shot that anyone can do well without those skills.

I worked with teens in Hawaii and Colorado that had emotional problems - group home setting - and you could see that many of the girls could read well enough so that if they found balance in other areas of their lives they could go to trades schools or college and do well. Many of the boys couldn't write a clear sentence and read so poolry that by the time they got to the end of the pararagraph they had forgotten how it started. You knew that they were headed for trouble.

If American businesses and the corporate machine, stopped importing cheap labor or exporting jobs to third world countries, we would not have the problems that have been growing over three decades. Let's look to America for a huge workforce, instead of pandering to Mexico, India and other low wage nations. We already have an occupying force of 12 to 20 million illegal foreign nations who taxpayers are supporting.
We should demand our hired help in Washington and in state capitols, co-author "THE SAVE ACT." It is our only chance before the next president strides into the Oval Office and extends yet another welcome to millions of more impoverished people to take American jobs.
