How should we describe the false, male-vilifying statistics that are ubiquitous on the modern college campus? Christina Hoff Sommers, author of Who Stole Feminism? calls them "Hate Statistics." That seems apt.
To follow the recent controversy over the feminist "1 in 4 college women are raped" myth, see my recent blog post 'It’s a lonely job, working the phones at a college rape crisis center...you wait for the casualties to show up but no one calls' or click here.
The photo above was taken at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. by Alex, a reader. Such displays can be seen at practically every university.

the most striking aspect of this dilemma is so obvious that perhaps we don’t realize it is staring us in the face.
the #1 problem is fathers allowing their sons to be educated ( if that is correct terminology) in these cesspools of liberal bilge! it speaks as to how very weak minded and silent those dads continue to be in spite of all the information available to help them make good parental decitions. never mind the sons of single mothers (millions???) who are a total right off at this point. it’s the DADS that are to blame for not showing the way to their progenies, both male and female actually.
or is just me?

OH MY GOD! SOME POOR WOMAN WAS RAPED AND BEATEN WHILE TRYING TO PREPARE THIS CARDBOARD CARICATURE.
according to these type stat’s, it eventually had to happen.
see what happens when feminists try to do math?

As a parent of a female child, I look at statistics such as those and I can’t help but wonder. How in the world could any parent, anywhere, anytime ever allow their daughters to be placed in such jeopardy? There is no way in the world I would let my daughter go to Iraq (she is still a teenager), and the casualty rates are far far less than what that poster describes. I would never let my daughter walk alone at night in a drug infested neighborhood, and yet the casualty rates in those neighborhoods is so much lower than it is on college campuses (according to that billboard).
Lucky for my daughter, I actually know the truth, and because of that, I won’t be forcing her to go to a girls only school (but I will check out real and factual crime statistics at the school of her choice).

Racists once claimed “Blacks are less evolved, over sexed, prone to crimes of violence. Then one day their ignorance and bigorty were disinfected by close scrutiny.
Today feminist say ALL of the above but they just took out the word black and put in the word men. Some day …

First of all steven’s comment about replacing the word “black” with the word “men” is very male, and indeed, very biased.
It’s understandable, however, that with things like feminist liberation movements and equality amongst the sexes being thrown left-right-and-centre, some men are bound to get confused, upset, appalled or downright pissed off at what they see as discrimination against them.
On the one hand, men’s roles and visions in society have changed and are still changing on a daily basis. Gone is the provider and the head of the family. In comes the “who am I then?” and “what do I do now”?
On the other hand, radical feminist movements, misguided by the belief that their voices would not be heard unless they displayed just as much strength as the men, have used means more forceful than necessary in order to achieve their goals.
The forcefulness of these movements has only cemented men’s reticence to allow what they see as a blunt intrusion into “their territories”.
Just for the record, though, (most) women don’t think that men are violent, over-sexed animals. However, crime rates, violence and abuse towards women in what we considered to be the “developed” world are soaring. It’s the combination of the increase in crime rate and media by-play that forces these issues into the foreground more often than ususal.
I’m not saying that there aren’t cases of women raping, abusing or beating up men. But these incidents are so rare, that they become almost negligible in comparison.
On the issue of the statistics…
I think the term “hate statistics” is an exaggeration and a complete misinterpretation of what that leaflet really tries to achieve.
Let’s look at these stats for what they really are. They are leaflets designed for the sole use in colleges, schools and campuses. They are blunt, explicit, and yes, exaggerated. I’m not saying that it’s right, but, truthfully, it’s pure and simple marketing. Advertising a danger and a threat.
They target young men and women who, face it, treat these issues with the normal casualness of, well, young men and women. Their goal is to get your attention, increase awareness, stay in your mind and instil a factor of caution and fear into young women and even a degree of protectiveness in their male friends, siblings and boyfriends. They play on their physical vulnerability when faced with an attacker, and try to empower them by making them, just for a few moments, feel exposed and endangered. If their message of “it could be you” is met with the response “I won’t let it be me”, then their mission is accomplished.
