I did not read the Globe article, but your quotations do not seem to support what you are trying to say. However to emphasize rejection letters as failure is a bit extreme. I did fine on the SAT's and got into the school I wanted. No rejections. Maybe I did not try hard enough. If I had applied to Yale, I might have gotten in. I did pretty well on the law school entrance exams too. I applied to Yale on a lark; I got into the school I wanted, and I never heard back from Yale. What ticked me off was they kept my $35.00, and I did not even get a rejection letter. No, rejection letters should not be "celebrated," but they are hardly a failure. I would be far more concerned about America's youth if they truly believed their worth as human beings were dependent on the yahoos in college admissions offices. The lesson is: failure is a part of life. But, not getting into a particular college is not the end of the world. I don't see the big deal. I think you are making too much out of nothing.
