‘The girl who encouraged Terry to spend all his money on her could not fail to observe that he is physically handicapped’

I have mixed emotions about strippers and strip clubs. In some ways I think it’s perfectly legitimate entertainment. Feminists often portray strippers as victims, and I can understand their view. I also think it can be exploitive and dehumanizing for men.

The letter below is from Paul, a longtime reader. The situation he describes is somewhat extreme, but I think it’s a legitimate point on the stripper/exploitation issue.

Paul’s Letter

The following is a true story involving my 25 year-old son (Terry) who was born with Cerebral Palsy.

First, I must confess that Terry is ultimately responsible for his actions. He was immature and selfish.

Earlier this week I learned that Terry built-up a credit card debt of $7,000 most of which resulted from spending at a night club where nude dancers would mingle with clients.

Terry graduated from college in May of 2006 but has only been able to land a series of part-time jobs since then. His Cerebral Palsy causes him to have an obvious spastic walk, but he is not wheel-chair bound. In my judgment he should have been more effective in his job search, so he merits blame for that.

Nonetheless, Terry has the normal sex drive of any 25 year old man. However, girls have largely ignored him all his life. There can be little doubt that his disability is a big part of the explanation.

Ultimately he concluded that the only way a girl would let him touch her was at the night club where the nude dancers mingle with the guest. Despite the fact that he has only a minimum wage part time job, he max’ed out his credit card to satisfy the hunger for female touch. He returned repeatedly to the same girl.

While feminists complain that strippers are being “exploited” by men, I think the situation is really the opposite. The girl who encouraged Terry to spend all his money on her could not fail to observe that he is physically handicapped. She exploited him.
