Dehumanizing Humanity

Darwinian evolutionary doctrine and its concomitant faith in the godless political state as the savior of mankind ironically, in practice, reduce human existence to the law of the jungle: survival of the fittest.

Darwinian natural selection has been used repeatedly since 1859 to justify strong-arm political tactics leading to dictatorial tyranny. In National Socialist Germany, for example, Jews were declared unfit to survive, and that declaration was rationalized on the basis of Darwinian “science” and its offshoot, eugenics.

As G. K. Chesterton noted: when men cease to believe in God, they don’t believe in nothing; they believe in anything. In that regard, read Lawrence Auster’s HOW DARWIN’S BELIEF IN NATURAL SELECTION CHANGED HIS EXPERIENCE OF LIFE.

In the Western world since 1789, Chesterton’s anything has meant perfection of humanity through the agency of socialist economic planning. Such perfection, however, is attained at a cost.

Anarchist Mikhail Bakunin, opposing Marxian collectivism in 1872, described what life was to be under socialism:

“The government will not content itself with administering and governing the masses politically, as all governments do today. It will administer the masses economically, concentrating in the hands of the State the production and division of wealth, the cultivation of land…All that will demand the reign of scientific intelligence, the most aristocratic, despotic, arrogant, and elitist of all regimes. There will be a new class, a new hierarchy…the world will be divided into a minority ruling in the name of knowledge, and an immense ignorant majority. And then, woe unto the mass of ignorant ones!”

One of many examples of such intellectual arrogance is today’s scam alleging man-made global warming. As rebellious voters in the UK are discovering (and we in the United States will soon discover), taxes and regulations to implement the grand plans of intellectuals will destroy our way of life, without in any meaningful degree benefitting the environment.

Following the lead of liberal-progressive politicians and self-identified intellectuals to impose procrustean regulations restricting consumer choices to those selected by bureaucratic planners, as much as preaching the natural superiority of German Aryans, is an open road to tyranny.

Thomas E. Brewton, who maintains this blog, had the great good fortune in the middle 1950s at Louisiana State University to study under two of the 20th century's great minds: Eric Voegelin in political science, and Walter Berns in Constitutional law. These two professors opened the door of education to a glimpse of Western civilization and of American political and social thought as they had been before socialism was unconstitutionally established as the official national religion of the United States in 1933. | More from Thomas Brewton

God gets blamed for quite a bit too.

He sent His Son down to explain the facts more clearly – “Hey guys and guyettes, love one another. It ain’t so bad and it ain’t so hard”.

Boy oh boy did that make a lot of folks mad as all hell.

    There’s no pleasing most people.

Vote #1 Amfortas. I come with wounds already.

Darwin has been used to justify everything from communism to anarchism to capitalism to aristocracy.

And he didn’t even coin the term “survival of the fittest!” That was Spencer– although Darwin borrowed the phrase later.
