Trying to change the unchangable produces an infinitely long government program with no upper limit on the power politicians can claim to need or the amount of spending. Each cycle shows the problem is not solved yet - and the inevitable political response is more power and money. In the case of global warming, when the average temperature starts to drop, there will just be a claim of partial success. But they've already renamed it "climate change" which will always be with us. They've also incorporated all aspects of weather - so everthing that happens will forever be a reason for more power and money.

So often people feel inspired by politicians who claim that they can change the unchangeable. Environmental policy is intoxicating to a security-needy public. It's difficult to have a constructive public debate on an issue that so few are willing to challenge or scrutinize. Now, if Gore and his cohorts could "fix" the environment without increasing taxes or the size of the government...that is something worth talking about!
