Disproof of Global Warming Hype Published

A mathematical proof that there is no “climate crisis” has been published in debate on global warming in Physics and Society, a scientific publication of the 46,000-strong American Physical Society.

Christopher Monckton, who once advised Margaret Thatcher, demonstrates via 30 equations that computer models used by the UN’s climate panel (IPCC) were pre-programmed with overstated values for the three variables whose product is “climate sensitivity” (temperature increase in response to greenhouse-gas increase), resulting in a 500-2000% overstatement of CO2’s effect on temperature in the IPCC’s latest climate assessment report, published in 2007.

The article, entitled Climate Sensitivity Reconsidered demonstrates that later this century a doubling of the concentration of CO2 compared with pre-industrial levels will increase global mean surface temperature not by the 6 °F predicted by the IPCC but, harmlessly, by little more than 1 °F. Lord Monckton concludes –

“… Perhaps real-world climate sensitivity is very much below the IPCC’s estimates. Perhaps, therefore, there is no ‘climate crisis’ at all. … The correct policy approach to a non-problem is to have the courage to do nothing.”

Larry Gould, Professor of Physics at the University of Hartford and Chair (2004) of the New England Section of the American Physical Society (APS), has been studying climate-change science for four years. He said:

“I was impressed by an hour-long academic lecture which criticized claims about ‘global warming’ and explained the implications of the physics of radiative transfer for climate change. I was pleased that the audience responded to the informative presentation with a prolonged, standing ovation. That is what happened when, at the invitation of the President of our University, Christopher Monckton lectured here in Hartford this spring. I am delighted that Physics and Society, an APS journal, has published his detailed paper refining and reporting his important and revealing results.

“To me the value of this paper lies in its dispassionate but ruthlessly clear exposition – or, rather, exposé – of the IPCC’s method of evaluating climate sensitivity. The detailed arguments in this paper, and, indeed, in a large number of other scientific papers, point up extensive errors, including numerous projection errors of climate models, as well as misleading statements by the IPCC. Consequently, there are no rational grounds for believing either the IPCC or any other claims of dangerous anthropogenic ‘global warming’.”

Lord Monckton’s paper reveals that –

  • The IPCC’s 2007 climate summary overstated CO2’s impact on temperature by 500-2000%;
  • CO2 enrichment will add little more than 1 °F (0.6 °C) to global mean surface temperature by 2100;
  • Not one of the three key variables whose product is climate sensitivity can be measured directly;
  • The IPCC’s values for these key variables are taken from only four published papers, not 2,500;
  • The IPCC’s values for each of the three variables, and hence for climate sensitivity, are overstated;
  • “Global warming” halted ten years ago, and surface temperature has been falling for seven years;
  • Not one of the computer models relied upon by the IPCC predicted so long and rapid a cooling;
  • The IPCC inserted a table into the scientists’ draft, overstating the effect of ice-melt by 1000%;
  • It was proved 50 years ago that predicting climate more than two weeks ahead is impossible;
  • Mars, Jupiter, Neptune’s largest moon, and Pluto warmed at the same time as Earth warmed;
  • In the past 70 years the Sun was more active than at almost any other time in the past 11,400 years.

    this is something to chew on.

    in any case, the glacial ice and polar ice is disappearing. question is, will it return with the decrease of solar activity?

    we’ll just have to wait and see.

    I’d be interested to see a link to reliable information about polar melt rates: The reports of unusual melting doesn’t really match the temperature decrease of the last ten years so getting access to reliable information about actual melt rates would help to understand the debate a little better.

    Al Gore’s scare-mongering re: the disappearing ice was mostly explained with one word - “if”. He said, “if” all the ice melts (was it the arctic or Greenland?), sea levels would rise 20 feet. But there is and never was any scientific prediction, under any circumstances, that all of the ice would melt. Even the IPCC MAXIMUM projection is less than 2 feet sea rise in 100 years, and that’s assuming temps will continue to rise as their computer models predict instead of the world working the way it always has.

    The images of extremely rapid ice melt have all been related to other local causes and are local phenomena. The local causes, such as changes in land use, particularly deforestation were known when Gore’s movie was created. Gore lied - it was completely dishonest - like the suffering polar bears and everything else. In Greenland, they’ve discovered underground active valcano thingys, which add heat to the particular spots in Greenland that are melting at an unusually rapid rate.

    Sea ice now isn’t melting, but spreading. The seas have not just stopped rising, but started to fall.

    Nor is the weather getting wilder. Cyclones, as well as tornadoes and hurricanes, aren’t increasing and the rain in Australia hasn’t stopped falling.

    What’s more, the slight warming we saw over the century until 1998 still makes the world no hotter today than it was 1000 years ago.

    In fact, it’s even a bit cooler. So, dude, where’s my global warming?

    Climate Change is not a Bad Word. As a student of Environmental Studies I learned there is absolutely no proof of global warming. You have a heat Island effect in cities and most weather stations monitoring temperature etc are set up incorrectly. Besides when did climate “change” become a bad word. That is what climate does “It Changes!” It’s not a static system is a dynamic system. Deserts where once grass lands etc! I do believe in keeping our environment clean. Thats a no brainer. Poles shift and change climate every 10-12,000 years and we are currently at that point again. It’s a natural occurence. Wooly mammoths are found with tropical grasses in their stomachs in the artic! Climate Change is not a Bad Word!

    Nobody really unstands why the poles shift but they do. We also could be witnessing a very important astrological event around 2012. From what I understand is that our galaxy will aligned in a straight line and that only happens every 26,000 years. There is a theory that states when this happens there is a good chance the earth will tilt in the opposite direction…reaking havoc on everything causing earthquakes & climate change as everything will try to reach a new equilibrium.

    July 19, 2008 at 1:06 pm

  15. Zorik said,

    What’s this about the earth tilting and poles shifting? Anybody who understands angular momentum (basic physics) knows that the earth is not going to change its degree of tilt. Unless we get smucked by another planet or at least something the size of a moon (not just an asteroid) that is never never never going to happen. The earth is like a spinning wheel and it would take extreme force to change the direction of spin.

    The poles don’t move or shift. However, magnetic poles move slowly and are said to shift.

    There is a theory that the magnetic field reverses periodically. However, the idea of the magnetic field reversing is highly dubious. It appears that some dodo drew a line thru the middle of some periodic fluctuations and declared it a “reversal” whenever the field crossed over the imaginarly line on his graph.

    By the way, the term “wooly mammoth” is erroneous. The mammoths were hairy, not wooly. Wool retains heat, hair does not.

    July 19, 2008 at 8:17 pm

  16. rastus said,

    The tilt WILL change in the future, just not suddenly. The Earth’s spin precesses, just like a top that wobbles slightly. Our Moon mostly stabilizes that wobble, but not entirely. It’s one of the factors responsible for the climate cycles Earth goes through, albeit one of the longer cycles. In this case, the angle between Earth’s rotational axis and the normal to the plane of its orbit moves from 22.1 degrees to 24.5 degrees and back again on a 41,000-year cycle. Currently, this angle is 23.44 degrees and is decreasing.

    I’d have to say that I’m a little rusty on the subject, and have only read a small bit about it in the past. I recall that Einstein once pointed out that the earth is a physical body that must obey physical laws - so if there are major shifts in the positions of continents for example, or ice, there will be a change in the characteristics of the spin.

    There has been at least debate on the topic of a rapid change in the tilt or position of the axis - but I only glanced through the topic once a long time ago - don’t really remember the details. Perhaps my memory is so faded on the topic at this point, I might have confused it with some early discussions on precession.
