The Goodwin Family Cemetery’s move

Nestled in a wooded area along Brookhaven’s Peachtree Rd. in Atlanta, Georgia, the Goodwin Family Cemetery and House had long been a poignant reminder of the area’s rural history.

In November 2007 the graveyard was moved to the Nancy Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. It was transferred because the family was caring for several small cemeteries and decided to consolidate them. Family member and Goodwin House property manager Lynda Martin explains, “Much of the family was already at the Nancy Creek cemetery. There were ten headstones that were only symbolic at the Goodwin Cemetery. The remains were already at Nancy Creek and we just united the headstones with them.”

Both the house and the property on which it stands are currently for sale. “We’re hopeful that whoever buys the property will want to include the house in whatever they do,” Martin says. “We are talking to several people who have expressed an interest in moving the house to their property.”

Albert Martin usually leads tours of the house on the third Sunday of each month at 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Sometimes circumstances prevent Albert Martin from leading a tour so people who want to take one should first call The Goodwin Society at 404-233-2794. Anyone wanting information about purchasing the property should call the Investment Property Specialists at 770-889-8087.
