Almost, Zorik? It is just so hard finding enough quality evidence for you skepticks ! Never mind the quality, look at the big numbers.

Amfortas, your explanation of the big bang is the most logical one I've heard! It's almost enough to make me a believer.

The Universe expands due to hot air. Now, one would think that there was a huge amount of hot air produced by all thse burning stars, but in the vastness of cold space that heat is simply cancelled out. So the Universe would be Steady State, but for another factor.

That is us, currently. Or rather lately. Our cosmologists produce an excess of hot air that adds to the output of all those billions of stars, just enough to impart a bit of expansion.

I say lately. Of course we are not alone. There have been millions of civilisations throughout the Universe for an incalculable number of eons, all eventually producing cosmologists who do their bit. One lot here and there replace the previous lot as they find their way to the answer and cool down.

But there is a huge danger growing which is mucking up all the expansion constants. This has never happened before (as far as we know). The Global Warming crowd have quadrupled our output ! It will show up any day now.

God willing.

According to Eric Lerner, a noteworthy dissenter, the big bang was popularized by a lie in a popular book. The theory was believed in by only a handfull of scientists at the time. Then the author of this popular astronomy book lied -- claiming that it was the dominant theory accepted by cosmologists at the time. This lie was believed by so many uninformed people -- including young astronomy buffs who became the next generation of scientists -- that the theory gained credibility and it *became* the dominant theory.

Most scientists just go with the flow. But that is not science!
