While i don't necessarily agree or disagree with either of you entirely, I have to tell you, "PhDiva," that your comments literally made me laugh. You call the author an "intellectual joke" and insinuate that she is immature, and yet….you compose the stupidest insults I've ever heard. The idea to call the author an "idiot," for example, was hysterically elementary. Before you insult the intelligence of others, you should brush up on your insulting skills – and "name-calling" goes out of style around 4th grade. Honestly, I'm amazed that someone who so readily makes such an ass of themselves was allowed to ATTAIN a Ph.D. Feel free to respond and call me as many names as you like, since that appears to be your favorite means of defense. I won't waste my time checking to see if you answered – but I'm sure someone else will get a laugh out of what a "diva" you are. Or maybe the fact that you're so insecure you have to flaunt your education in your USERNAME.

Relax, PhDiva, that chip on your shoulder must be getting very heavy. You’re reading, but not comprehending. All he was saying is that until the religious right got involved in political discourse, the media saw no problem with unfusing religion into politics, as long as the religion infused wasn’t conservative. You may or may not agree with the author, but at least argue intelligently with what was written. It’s YOU who are suggesting all that you attribute to the author. Your kneejerk racial rant is boilerplate hysteria, and it’s really starting to bore the hell out of me.

Maybe you should turn in our PhD.

The headline on your article was new and clever. When I read your bona fides at the end of the article, they are impressive. You know more about religion than most people (including me) know about any faith.
But the most importnat information for me was the defenition of many websites an pundits, some I had never heard of. I visited one new site and whether one agrees or disagrees with its content, pointed out how fallible we all are and gave for me good advice. (quote)

1. Did you actually criticize the civil rights movement because there were religious leaders involved? That means that you think that Martin Luther King was some religious hack who shouldn’t have had anything to do with Civil Rights, the march on Washington shouldn’t have happened, the Civil Rights Act of 1964(which the march was promoting) shouldn’t have happened, and that Black people should still be second class citizens who can’t eat in the same restaurants as you. Who cares, just as long as we make sure that religious figures don’t participate in civil life. That’s where your pathetic excuse for logic is leading. I’m an African American woman professor. You are arguing against my citizenship rights. If I listened to you, I would turn in my Ph.D. and head back to the plantation. You’d like that wouldn’t you.

2. Anybody who dismisses somebody else’s level of discourse and then relies on Wikipedia for their analysis is an intellectual joke. You are an embarrassment as a journalist and a citizen. Go back to school. My students can write and research circles around you. In their sleep.

3. The statement regarding Jesus and Pontius was a “rhetorical” analogy. It wasn’t literal. Do you understand the concept of rhetoric or the concept of analogy? I didn’t think so. Go back to school. But not to my class. You wouldn’t last a day. I don’t teach idiots. My students are brilliant. They know how to listen, read, research, analyze, and write with humor and critical depth. You don’t.
