Booting Murtha Out of Congress

Recent polls in Pennsylvania show that Rep. Jack Murtha, the Democrat Congressman who said our troops “were murdering innocent civilians in Iraq,” is in serious political trouble this election cycle. His opponent, Republican Bill Russell, a retired Army colonel, is taking on Murtha with very little media attention thanks to the Democrat lackeys who run the mainstream news media.

In one poll, according to blogger and author Michelle Malkin, Bill Russell is leading John Murtha among over 800 probable voters by 48-35.

This comes on top of the Susquehanna Poll showing Murtha ahead of Russell by 4 points — within the margin of error, according to Malkin.

The latest poll is from Dane and Associates, which surveyed over 800 probable voters, randomly selected to reflect the district makeup, on Wednesday night.

No matter how proud their tradition, every military organization has its embarrassments. The US Marine Corps has John Murtha. For 34 years he served in Congress with relative obscurity.

But in May 2006 John Murtha went on national television and boldly stated that eight of our Marines in Iraq “…killed innocent civilians in cold blood.”

John Murtha rushed in front of the cameras before any evidence had been presented during courts martial of the eight Marines. Taking it a step further, John Murtha even insisted that anyone who said differently, up to and including General Peter Pace, was a liar.

From that moment, the liberal media fell in love with John Murtha. Now they run to him and eagerly repeat his defeatist message in their newspapers and on their 24-hour cable news channels.

However, just as often happens, liberal lies could not survive close scrutiny. Seven of the eight Marines he accused of murder have been cleared of all charges. The final Marine awaits his day in court, and he has been informed that his case has been postponed indefinitely. Those responsible for the long postponement of the eighth Marine’s trial claim their actions have nothing to do with Murtha being reelected in Pennsylvania.

To add to Rep. Murtha’s frequent breaks from reality, he told an interviewer that the voters in his district are racists. When he realized he once again put his big foot in his mouth, Murtha said he misspoke — what he meant to say was voters in his district were rednecks.

Before 2006, John Murtha was known merely as an “unindicted coconspirator” in the infamous Abscam bribery case. The reason he wasn’t indicted is believed that he acted as an informant for the prosecutors snitching out his colleagues before they could snitch on his activities.
