Few people in most countries know much about their own history or organisation. For example: most people in Australia think the the Queen is the Head of State. Most politicians erroneously think that too. In fact she is the Soveriegn. The Governor General (appointed by the Prime Minister) is the Head of State. In Canada it is the same.

Most Americans do not realise that 'under God', a phrase in the Pledge of Allegience is quite recent. On October 21, 1892, the Pledge of Allegiance was first spoken publicly. It was written by Christian Socialist author and Baptist minister, Francis Bellamy (cousin of famed utopian socialist, Edward Bellamy), but the reference to 'under God' was not added until later, following a lobbying campaign by the Knights of Columbus – a Catholic fraternal organization – and others, including the Presbyterian minister, George MacPherson Docherty. Congress approved the addition of the words 'under God' within the phrase 'one nation indivisible', and on June 14, 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower signed an order adding the words 'under God' to the 'Pledge'.

I don't think God was consulted on the matter. Indeed, I wonder if He knows abaout it at all.

I took the time to listen to a couple of chapters from Bernard Chapin’s book “Escape from Gangsta Island” on podcast the other day. I doubt that there are many people in America who understand the problem better than Mr. Chapin. I only listened to the first couple chapters, so I don’t know what his solution to the problem would be, but here’s the way I see it.

We need to fire most of the people teaching in our schools, not pay them more. Pay the new hires more if they achieve results. If we are going to become a nation of “union busters” then we need to start with these parasites.

Men need to start teaching male students and women need to teach the girls. Boys and girls should be in separate classes, if not separate schools. Our system of government should be a major subject for every child.

The school year needs to be divided into quarters with a three week vacation between quarters. Three months in the summer is too long for children to be away from school. The long summer vacation (with pay) is for the benefit of teachers, not children. This would also help facilitate equal parenting for children of divorce.

I think implementing these few changes would turn our schools around in a couple of years. The biggest challenge would be finding enough qualified male teachers. Maybe we should be letting qualified teachers into the country instead of transient workers.
