Voice of “Bart Simpson” used to promote Scientology

Nancy Cartwright, who is a long time member of the Church of Scientology, has created a recording using her voice of Bart Simpson. The message surfaced early Wednesday morning on YouTube. During the message, Nancy states that “This is a special message” and announces an upcoming event for Scientology at the Hollywood and Highland Center in Los Angeles where she has a speaking engagement. Nancy ends with a toll free number to confirm your appearance.

Wikinews has obtained audio of the message, which can be heard here.

Nancy Cartwright has been following the Church of Scientology since 1989 and also voices the roles of Nelson Muntz, Todd Flanders, Kearney and Ralph Wiggum.

Executive producer, Al Jean stated, “This is not authorized by us. The Simpsons does not, and never has, endorsed any religion, philosophy or system of beliefs any more profound than Butterfinger bars.”, referencing the advertisements featuring the Simpsons for the Butterfinger candy bar.

Cartwright begins the message with “Hey, what’s happening man, this is Bart Simpson…”, and then says she is kidding and identifies herself as the voice actress. Cartwright proceeds to use her own voice and Bart’s voice throughout the message.

She states “I’m now auditing on new OT (Operating Thetan Level) Seven,” referring to the Operating Thetan levels within Scientology. Operating Thetan level seven is one of the higher levels in Scientology. She uses Scientology jargon while speaking in Bart’s voice, saying she will share her “many wins” as an “Auditor” at the Hollywood Scientology event.

The message has since been removed from YouTube. Visitors of the link, which appears in several press articles, are now left with a message saying “this video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Twentieth Century Fox.” Wikinews sent an e-mail to FOX regarding the incident, but as of this report, they have not replied.

Religion has been a major theme in The Simpsons. In the episode “The Joy Of The Sect”, the commentators said that Movementarians were largely inspired by Scientology, the Jim Jones cult and the Peoples Temple, the Heaven’s Gate Cult, the Osho movement, the Raelians, the Oneida Society and Chen Tao.

Isaac Hayes left South Park over its attitudes towards Scientology depicted in “Trapped in the Closet”. Isaac Hayes died of a stroke on August 10, 2008.

so this self-described church thinks people will be attracted to join because a cartoon character tells them to? Was Nancy really this, ah, not smart to put her income on the line for scientology? When is the dead horse that is scientology finally going to fall over?

My family is now vchipped against Bart Simpson, which is a real shame because my kids love the show. That being said, so are most of the television sets in my neighborhood as of noon today. We parents had a meeting over coffee and have decided that it would be best if we no longer watch The Simpsons until the show's producers decide that it is time to clean up their own house.

We neither want nor will tolerate Scientology in our homes in ANY way. Not Bijou Phillips or Tom Cruise on "The View" trying to act normal while telling the world he knows medicine better than doctors do. Celebrity isn't a license to push madness on children, and we're going to protect ours. We're on the agenda for the next PTA meeting, and will be discussing this matter and Scientology / Applied Scholastics / Narcanon / Volunteer Minsters who show up at disasters like 9/11, Katrina, and every other horrid thing you can think of to exploit tragedy.

We realize if something bad happened here, those horrible vultures might well show up. Our community is going to be prepared now, thanks to Ms. Cartwright. Bart Simpson crossing over to promote a group like Scientology was just too dangerous for us to do nothing. Protect yourself and your families; get the facts about why a rational parent would come on a website and say such strange things about something that seems so small and trivial.

These people want to absolutely DESTROY the psychiatry, psychology, and social work professions. They want an end to mental healthcare as we know it and to substitute their own special brand of insanity instead, justifying it in a way that translates to "if we're all insane together, in the same way, then that'll be great!"

    Madness… sheer madness. Get informed.
