Activist Jailed for Chalking Family Rights Message on Courthouse

2009-11-25
By

Parents’ rights activist John Murtari was arrested again Monday for writing on the Wayne County Hall of Justice Courthouse in Lyons, NY.  Murtari was incarcerated for writing “Mr. Oaks help family rights” one time on the side of the building with washable children’s sidewalk chalk.  (Photo)

Murtari was joined by two other parents, Scott Rhodes and Mark Hough of Equal Parents for Children in Rochester.  (See photos, video) They spoke to Assemblyman Oak’s secretary Myra Brown about their personal situations, family faw reform, and protecting the civil right of mothers, fathers, and children to be secure as family.  Hough explains his interest.

“I just recently went through a separation and divorce.  My son lives with me 3 days a week.  This was what my attorney had worked out with my wife’s attorney for the best interest of our son.

If this had not been worked out, my son and I would have been at the mercy of family court.  In most cases that I know of, family court was devastating to the children, as well as the noncustodial parent.  The children in most cases were stripped of their right to both parents.

Even as my son spends quality time with both parents, his mother is trying to alienate him emotionally from me. I’ve learned this is called parental alienation. I fully support the Declaration of Family Rights so children’s rights can be established.”

After leaving Oak’s office, Hough, Rhodes and Murtari held a peaceful protest in front of the Wayne County Courthouse.  They held signs with photos of their children and the words “Help family rights” while walking back and forth along the sidewalk.  Not wanting to put Hough and Rhodes at risk of arrest, Murtari returned alone to write on the building.

These activities are part of Murtari’s ongoing quest to get Assemblyman Robert Oaks to author a Parents Rights Act.  Murtari has submitted a draft of proposed legislation to Oaks.  He thinks it would be political suicide, according to Murtari.

Murtari says he was informed by his council over the weekend that the DA planned to request a psychiatric examination of him.  She said he does not believe Murtari is competent to stand trial.  Two psychiatrists examined Murtari during one protest that had him surviving via feeding tube for 123 days while incarcerated for child support arrears he says he does not owe.  Both psychiatrists found Murtari to be of sound mind.

Murtari wonders if local officials are trying to embarrass him.

“The local Court sees many cases of robberies, domestic violence, drug use, and other criminal behavior.  But when a peaceful person is willing to risk jail to show the importance of a Civil Right issue — they need to have their head examined?”

Murtari, founder of akidsright.org and the National Parents Leadership Council appeared at the Wayne County Courthouse in Lyons this morning.   Eventually he was released with no pre-trial conditions.

Shared parenting , I must be crazy. Reacting badly to being abused and violated by the government sponsored kidnapping and extortion racket known as the family courts, why get out the straight jackets and put me in a paded room. Why you must be crazy for not wanting to live in slavery and make every effort to either escape or fight back. Quick ,get the get the heavy drugs, these guys are totally nuts, don’t they know that they are only be treated badly for the sake of the children and besides that they deserve such bad treatment for just being men!
The idiots who run this God awful racket must be getting desperate to use tactics once used by the communist and we all know what happened to them, they failed! The realization is , that people are getting wise to the abuses of the family courts. People are doing the math and are smelling a rat. The kidnapping and extortion racket this thing has become is even being noticed by people who have never been victimized by it. People know wrong is wrong, no matter how you dress it up. Another thing I think what the GiSKERS are becoming aware of, is that they are eventualy going to lose!
( GiSKERS government sponsored kidnapping and extortion racket)
They have read the history books and the bad guys alway end up losing and that is not just in the movies. They are just trying to hang on for as long as they can and steal as much as they can before the forces of justice catch up to them.

” But when a peaceful person is willing to risk jail to show the importance of a Civil Right issue — they need to have their head examined?”

The accusation of mental illness is the easiest slander to direct at a character and the most difficult claim to disprove, because mental well being and character are always unseen by the superficial observation. Hence it is the most popular weapon for calumnists who want to discredit someone’s ideas or to derail their cause.

    If New York politicans are as responsive as Maryland, good luck for your effort. This state delegate let police be penalized for his stunt marriage proposal . While police helicopter hovered above, police went on to the boat and told the bride- to -be to turn around so they can put hand cufs on .Patty Hearst reportedly wet herself when told she was under arrest. There is no report if this bride -to- be gave golden shower to the groom to be as he was on his knees as she turned around. Police union is upset that officer is punished while politican only paid $300 in restitution. Link;
