LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Taking the Bait, and Spitting it Out

Dear Editor:

In a recent MND column, Bernard Chapin describes me as a “shallow,” “b-tchy,” hypersensitive “p-ssy” who can’t handle insults or vigorous disagreement. I will only point out that if somebody can’t handle insults, they should know better than to criticize fathers’ rights advocacy. Someone who is afraid to have their views challenged isn’t likely to appear as a guest on a radio show in which the host, the other guest, and every caller attack his position. (Heck, I even wrote my undergraduate thesis on the problem of father absence in a social studies department dominated by postmodern feminists.) I’ll let readers decide if those are the actions of somebody afraid to confront criticism.

But what have I done to make Chapin so hot and bothered?

Essentially, I have accused him of being an angry, whiny white male victimologist. I have also argued that fathers’ rights advocates and the “men’s movement” (as represented by Men’s News Daily) undermine any legitimate grievances they might have through extreme rhetoric, conspiracy theorizing, and juvenile name-calling.

So, Brer Chapin, please don’t insult me! Please don’t call me names! I’m weak! I can’t take it! Please, please don’t throw me in that briar patch!

Jackson Innocent Until Proven Guilty

Dear Editor:

Michael Jackson is a bizzare individual who might be guilty of terrible crimes. As bad as the legal system is, it's better than we are at figuring that out.
