MND NEWSWIRE Manchester (UK) - British Father's Rights activists have staged another protest demanding fair treatment from Family Law policy makers — this time at a Labour Party Conference attended by Prime Minister Tony Blair. The group, Fathers 4 Justice ( F4J ), who campaign for the right of children to be brought up equally by both parents after divorce or separation, took their message to the streets of Manchester on Friday and to the doors of the conference. Dressed as Superheroes, 'because every father is a superhero to his children', about 150 campaigners marched from All Saints Park, down one of the main routes into Manchester, finishing off with a noisy protest opposite the G-Mex centre where the conference was being held. Campaigners came from all corners of the United Kingdom. Two members were from farther afield - Chicago and New Zealand. The protest march was watched by Mike Wiffen, dressed as Spiderman and perched on top of a crane while two other members were busy climbing on a gantry over a motorway. Wiffen came down from the crane about 3 o'clock in the afternoon with cheers and support from Fathers 4 Justice members who assembled as close to the building site as the police would allow them. All three protestors were released from police custody at 1 am the following morning and allowed to go home. Fathers 4 Justice are planning to step up their actions during the coming year and the next major event will be Nationwide protests on April 1st. outside the offices of the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service ( CAFCASS ), formerly known as Court Welfare Officers, who prepare reports for the courts and are deemed the eyes and ears of the judges. This protest will see groups of campaigners dressed in white disposable overalls with purple handprints on them, dust masks, purple painted brooms and brushes, and a sign on their back stating that they are the 'Decontamination Unit - Cleaning up Family Law'. It is reported that this event may be mirrored in other countries in support of Fathers 4 Justice and in order to place pressure on their own systems which are denying children their rights to be parented equally by both parents after divorce or separation. Report filed by Dave Ellison. |
