PodCasting Changes Everything
Is 'Distorted View' The Future of JournoTainment?
by Mike LaSalle
You heard it here first: Distorted View is the future of media....
Over the past year or so, I have subscribed to a number of talk radio programs available on the Internet.
One of the websites I subscribe to is rushlimbaugh.com. (I also subscribe to Michael Savage, and formerly to The Glenn Beck Show. I like all of them.)
A few days ago I logged into my Rush account and found that he was now offering podcasts of his show.
Now, I've never had a problem listening to Limbaugh through my computer - normally I just go http://rushlimbaugh.com and start streaming an audio feed.
Listening to a podcast meant installing some software - including iTunes and something called iPodder. (No, I don't have a bloody iPod!)
Once installed, I was suddenly the automatic recipient of the Rush Limbaugh show on a daily basis... when ready, three 1-hour-long mp3 files are automatically uploaded to my computer.... and deposited in my iTunes interface, where I can playback at leisure.
It's a new world...Podcasting.
Oh, I think this is big enough, okay.
>>WARNING: DO NOT LISTEN TO DISTORTED VIEW WHILE YOU ARE WITH FAMILY MEMBERS OR CO-WORKERS!! AND THE VIDEOS ARE NOT SAFE FOR WORK!!<<
Don't Say I Didn't Warn You!
The content of DISTORTED VIEW is very blue indeed. But it's also raw, genuine, and as dull or as passionate as any one of us could be at any given time.
Me? I thought it was funny. But then I loved Austin Powers (though this is lower than Mike Meyers could ever hope to go and still have a commerical release).
The mastermind behind the website, movies and podcasts is Tim Henson, an entrepreneur and Internet Talk Radio alumnus (hey Tim - do you remember Radio Riot?).
His material is grotesque, insulting, vulgar, infantile and juvenile all at once. It's truly beyond the pale of polite society... and it's simply not destined to play in Peoria (unless your thinking of that same little place I am).... It's also nutty enough to be very funny and disturbingly intimate.
Not as funny or as incisive as say, Armstrong and Getty, and not nearly as avant-garde as the late, great Andy Kaufman... but the art form is new, and Tim Henson is breaking the mold.

I listen to distorted view with my family. It's not shocking it's just funny.
I listen to Distorted View while I'm scrubbing my toilet. The chemical fumes help me to laugh louder.
