Islam’s Debt to Christianity

By Alamin Muhammad

Arabia before the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Allah’s peace be upon him), was the most backward place in the world. Most of the Arabs were Bedouins (nomads). Arabia didn’t have a single government of any kind, and no ruler could claim to rule all of it. The Arabs lived in tribes, and each tribe had a Sheikh, or chief, whose rulings was the final word. If one member of the tribe was in trouble, the others would help him, whether he was right or wrong. The only recognized law among the tribes was revenge.

The Arabs were divided into many different religions. Some Arabs were Christians, some Jews, but the majority was idol-worshippers. There were no moral codes being followed in Arabia. Each tribe made up its own rules, and blood feuds were the norm. The Kaaba which was built by Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and his son, Ishmael on the concept on tawheed (one G-d), had become a center of polytheism, housing over 360 idols.

When Muhammad (pbuh) was forty years old, the angel Jibrail, came to him with the first revelations that he was to receive from Allah. He didn’t understand what had happened to him. His wife, Khadijah, took him to one of her cousins, a Christian by the name of Waraqa. After Khadija told Waraqa what had happened to her husband, Waraqa smiled and said “by the power that holds my life. If what you say is true, the spirit of holiness (angel Jibrail) has come to Muhammad. That same one who keeps the secrets that came to Musa and Isa (Jesus). He is the last prophet. They will disbelieve him! They will persecute him! They will drive him away! They will fight him too! If I’m alive when he preaches his mission, I’ll help him with all my power”. Waraqa died before Muhammad (pbuh) began to preach publicly.

Three years later, when Muhammad (pbuh) began to preach publicly, the hostility of the idol-worshippers became severely harsh. Many Muslims who didn’t have tribal protection were receiving the worst treatment. Those Muslims who had strong family connections, usually only suffered taunts, insults, and sometimes fistfights. But, the Muslims who had few, or no family connections, were beaten, kidnapped, tortured, or even killed.

Muhammad (pbuh) arranged for the weakest Muslims to escape Mecca, and cross the red sea into Abyssinia. The king of that country was a Christian named Najjashi. This first group returned to Mecca after receiving a false report that the idol-worshippers were no longer persecuting Muslims. They returned to Mecca only to find that the Muslims were still being persecuted. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) organized over 80 men and women to escape from the persecution of the idol-worshippers in Mecca, to the safety of Christians.

The Meccans had trade agreements with the king of Abyssinia, and sought to use that as the leverage to bring the Muslims back to Mecca. The king asked to hear some of the Qur’an. Jafar ibn Abi Talib recited verses from surah nineteen (Maryam), which talks about Maryam, and the birth of Isa (Jesus Christ). After the king finished listening, he drew a line in the sand and said “The difference between Christianity and Islam was no thicker than that line”. The king refused to give up the Muslims, and the Meccans went home empty handed.

So, in Islam’s early beginnings it was afforded refuge from idol-worshippers by Christians. Islam may not have been wiped out, but it would’ve received a serious set-back, if not for the kindness, and protection of Christians.

Even today, America, a Christian nation, is providing education for many Muslims, and many more are being accepted as American citizens. All this is spite of some misguided individuals committing acts of terrorism against Christians and others calling for the death of America. The door of immigration still remains open to Muslims. Who are once again fleeing from idol-worshippers and oppressors, the difference this time, they are fleeing their own so called Muslim countries, to the safety and protection of Christians.

One of the big ironies is that you, a Muslim, can praise the good deeds of Christianity but I, a Christian and an American, am continuously vilified by a
cess-pool media, and my values continuously undermined by my own government-primarily the courts. I cannot sing any praises of Christianity without accepting the fact that I will come under attack from non-Muslims in my own country.

In the Muslim world, Islam is praised openly and Christians are often at risk.

Feminism-led by the Marxists, and adherents of the Frankfurt School, along with the corporate and media elite as allies, have turned the America I knew as a child into the debt-laded, cess-pool culture country it is today, filled with broken, empty, and lonely lives. Undermining this evil idealogy's two main threats, namely the family unit (man + woman + children), and Christianity has been the goals of Marxists, the Frankfurt School adherents, and it's most useful of useful idiots, the feminists, for 50+ years.

They've pretty much accomplished everything they set out to do. America may never recover from the damage that has been done to it.
