LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Vawa, Deadbeat and Justice
Hello Mike,
As you and Men's News Daily predicted, the assault (one-sided articles) are coming out of the woodwork with the impending passage of the Violence Against Women (ONLY) Act. Here are several anti-father articles appearing on today's front page of the Boston Herald's website!
Deadbeats: Bring them to justice!

Officials are on the hunt for 10 deadbeat dads who bolted the Bay State owing their kids a total of more than $500,000 – and leaving moms to raise dozens of dumped sons and daughters without a lick of help.
``This man pisses me off to no end and I am not going to let him get away with it,'' said Annmarie Christian, 57, a Springfield mother of two who is owed $24,047 by William J. Christian Jr.
``I am going to track him down. I am going to keep after him until I get it. I am going to get what's due to me,'' said the single mom, who has worked two manufacturing jobs and part time on the weekends to make ends meet for her kids after splitting with Christian in 1978.
Christian is one of 10 child chiselers whose faces will appear on the Department of Revenue's latest poster of 10 ``most wanted'' deadbeat dads. Since 1992, when the most-wanted posters were first released, department officials say it has helped them raise $3.3 million owed by the scofflaws. Between July 2004 and June 2005, the state collected $479.2 million in child support – a 5 percent increase from the previous year.
``The individuals voted with their feet. They left the commonwealth and made it very clear that it's a game of `catch me if you can,' and we've been very successful in catching them,'' said Marilyn Ray Smith, deputy commissioner for the child support enforcement division at the DOR.
Still, accused deadbeats like Marion E. Kaiser III have managed to drop off the radar screen. ``Borrowing money to get oil for the house, going to the church, going to the food pantry. You name it, I've done it,'' said Donna Dansereau, 39, of Holden, who last heard from Kaiser, her ex-fiance, in 1998 when he had the nerve to call and ask for a ``discount'' on child support for their daughters Katherine, 13, and Kellyann, 11.
``The girls have never received a birthday card, a Christmas card, a phone call in six years,'' said Dansereau, who works with autistic pre-schoolers, is in school and just gave up a waitressing job. [continue]

DOR: Scofflaw moms rare
By Laura Crimaldi
Friday, August 12, 2005
When it comes to leaving their children high and dry without a dime, deadbeat dads are certainly the most infamous, but there are plenty of scofflaw moms who bail when their children are placed in their father's custody.
Still, of the 18,000 to 20,000 Bay State parents who owe more than $10,000 in child support and have failed to make a payment in the past six months, less than 5 percent are women, according to the state Department of Revenue.
``Some of them don't have the means to pay and some write a check on the spot for $60,000,'' said Marilyn Ray Smith, deputy commissioner for the child support enforcement division at the DOR.
The big difference between deadbeat moms and dads is that the women aren't likely to vanish without a trace.
``They are less likely to be missing,'' Ray Smith said.

Mom toils to fill old man's long absence: He split when kid was 3

While Kyle B. Carney is believed to be mixing drinks as a bartender somewhere in Florida, his ex-wife can sum up how she gets by raising their 14-year-old daughter without a nickel from the deadbeat in three words: ``Bust my tail.''
``It's a nonstop struggle,'' said Tracy Carney of Ludlow, a home health aide who travels all over Western Massachusetts for a job that pays about $140 a week.
Since Carney split when his daughter Katelyn was 3, the child-support scofflaw has sent her checks sporadically, the last one arriving in May 2004. Birthdays come and go without a peep.
``I have a party for her myself. There's no cards or anything like that,'' Carney said. ``She never brings him up in conversation. I know she's probably not too happy with him.''
With Katelyn entering ninth grade in the fall, Carney is counting on trust funds and savings bonds provided by her family to pay for college tuition. Over the past 12 years, she has held part-time and management jobs at a Boston Market restaurant and worked extra hours in a convenience store to make ends meet.
``I've had help from my family and I have a wonderful boyfriend who's actually better than her own father,'' Carney said.

deadbeatdads?what a joke.most fathers are ripped out of their kids lives forced to pay amounts they can't possibly pay........as a single dad with custody of my FIVE children I can say that until my kids were brutality abused by their "loving" mother I payed 220$ a week (for 2 kids)plus anything else she wanted to bill me for.Now she pays me ummm let me add it up 1 plus 37 carry the 2 ummmm ..oh yeah nothing!
More mothers have custody of thier children than fathers. That would explain why less mothers owe more than 10,000. also when mothers loose custody of thier children they're usaully not working and living off child support, so thier support order that they must pay is minimal. Laura C. must think we can't read between the lines on this one!
a woman living off of her kids child support-are you a complete moron..??? The kids can barely be fed and clothed for what child support pays for an average family-lets face divorce with kids is a no- win situation for either side: middle income men that stick around and do the right thing by paying support, have a heck of a time making ends for a household of thier own-especially if they try to rent a home that will accomodate overnight visitation with those children ie at least two bedroom unit...and I hate to say it but i think that some of the men dissapearing are men that cant find a way to possibly pull it all off financially 2 households with the court ordered amounts and a home/life appropriate for overnight visitation.and on top of this the same man cannot afford an attorney usually, tho he is the same man not poor enough to be eligible for legal aid-the same problem was happening for the moms who could not collect and this went on for a long time when finally the fed.government stepped in for these women in the name of the childrens interest, as the woman were almost always the custodial parent-and still are, though men are picking up speed...
on the flip side of the coin Ive known a lot of women who cannot make ends meet with their child support and a full time job of thier own-and the day care needed or aftercare) to keep that 40 hr week job that winds up being whittled down to nothing if she hasnt got a relative that can take the kids while she works.
We need some new solutions for all parties ivolved in a divorce- to say that one side is absolutely screwed over and the other in great shape is simply moronic and simple minded-there are total deadbeat dads out there and there are man struggling to do the right thing by thier kids, despite tremendous hardship. There are moms who are left handling everything and others who have to chase after thier ex;s to get every months support-and with the way kids are today its never enough-except possibly for the filthy rich who have alimonies tied in with thier child support.
oh and just a note my isster was oredered to pay alimony and child support becuase when she left the marriage she was making more after teaching herself website design, despite her ex's constant critisism and mockery, in the end he fleeced her for all she was worth and got 75 per of the sale of ther house while she got 25 becuase he made a lot less-it is a money issue not gender-and this mnd would be a lot better off if they stuck with the core issue in many instances ie here it should be divorce rather than those damn women we men are always getting screwed-interstingly the exact same thing you accuse the feminists of!
