American, American Israeli, Win Nobel Prize in Economics
VOA - American Thomas Schelling and Israeli and U.S. citizen Robert Aumann have won this year's Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.
The award was announced Monday morning at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm. The two were cited for their work on game theories that help explain economic conflicts.
The academy says their work enhanced understanding of economic conflict and cooperation. It says the games theory approach clarifies the "reason for being" for many institutions from merchant guilds and organized crime to wage negotiations and international trade agreements.
The two men will share the $1.3 million cash award that accompanies the prestigious prize.
The economics prize is the only Nobel award that was not established in the will of Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel in 1901. It was set up by the Swedish central bank in 1968.
