US Troops Kill 29 Insurgents in Western Iraq

The U.S. military says U.S. forces in Iraq have killed at least 29 insurgents during the latest fighting in western Iraq.

The military said Friday the latest fighting occurred Thursday during one of two offensives being conducted by thousands of U.S troops and Iraqi soldiers in several Euphrates River towns.

Separately, British officials say the military has detained 12 people in southern Iraq suspected of involvement in a surge of attacks against British forces in the region. British officials say the raid was conducted late Thursday in the southern city of Basra.

Meanwhile, Iraqi authorities began handing out millions of copies of the draft constitution Friday, ahead of the nation's October 15 referendum.
