Newsflash: Number two al-Qaida chief laments Jesus "not sacred anymore"
By Greg Strange
Ayman al-Zawahri, al-Qaida's number two guy, has finally weighed in on the Mohammed cartoon controversy. It certainly took him long enough, but then you can understand the difficulties of getting a tape delivered from his remote hideout to the offices of Al-Jazeera without being detected and possibly obliterated. (And, as usual, Al-Jazeera stubbornly declined to say who gave the videotape to the network.)
Besides the predictable criticism of the Western cartoons and the insult to Islam, his latest tape was rife with the usual jihadi blather, the usual wallowing in Islamic victimhood and some long-winded speechifying about getting Palestine back. But the surprise of the tape had to be when he complained that the Prophet Mohammed and Jesus "are not sacred anymore."
Jesus? Since when does he care if Jesus isn't held sacred anymore? Aren't people who consider Jesus sacred called Christians, and aren't Christians infidels in the eyes of Islam, and aren't he and his unmerry band of jihadists all about killing infidels?
And, according to Zawahri, guess what has become sacred in place of Jesus? The Holocaust and homosexuality. Well, we already knew that any Islamic terrorist worth his salt is an inveterate Holocaust-denier and homosexual-hater. I guess it's a cinch "Schindler's List" didn't make Zawahri's favorite movies list, but if it's any consolation, at least "Brokeback Mountain" failed to get a complete sweep of the Oscars.
Greg Strange provides conservative commentary with plenty of acerbic wit on the people, politics, events and absurdities of our time. See more at his website: http://www.greg-strange.com/
