Liberals and . . . The Stockholm Syndrome?
Some people explain liberal angst as Mental Illness. Close.
Some believe it is Survivor’s Guilt. Possibly.
I explain it as old wounds with the desire to destroy our icons as a means of destroying politically the sources of their anxiety. This makes them self-dealing and unpatriotic, well-meaning or not.
As America's liberal faction fights America more and more, it attracts more attention to the question of why liberals hate American so. Add the Stockholm Syndrome to that working dx.
This week, liberals are once agains to be castigated for their supporting the enemy by undermining everything we’re trying to do in The Global War On Terrorism. Their’s could be treason, but for the fact that the liberals are so anxious, that they probably don’t know what they’re doing. Thus, they should not be granted clemency.
In their destructiveness, not merely for their opinion, they’re simply too dangerous to be indulged.
In the Stockholm Syndrome, captives make a survival shift in their perception of the danger to befriend and join their captors, not unlike the little girl who hates her baby sitter, but who suddenly (and factually) likes her in a mechanism of coping. The little girl actually believes she likes her sitter, and for all intents and purposes, the thrust of the shift is that she has found a way to survive.
The best widely known case of this is that of captive Patty Hearst, held by the Symbionese Liberation Army for weeks. It wasn’t very long before she bonded with her captors.
Prior to that were captives of a bank robbery gone bad in Stockholm, Sweden in 1973, where the captives soon developed loyalty to their captors, and one woman even married her kidnaper. The syndrome is named for them. Hearst later went on to marry a bodyguard of hers as interesting and foreseeable.
But this behavior is an indicator of having met successfully an intolerable situation, intolerable to him/her, that is – made tolerable by a slight distortion of reality. All defense mechanisms are a distortion of reality, and when it comes to that, liberals really know how to cope with what they perceive as painful, intolerable.
For them, somehow, the environment in which they live - not the politics, but the entire environment in which we all live - is somehow intolerable as it is. (The part that bugs liberals in the great debates is that conservatives – and many, many libertarians – live life in that very same environment by working without a net, thereby proving how comfortable life can really be after all. Who’s wrong here?)
Unfortunately, this means that liberals deal with our politics in that crafted, distorted view of reality on everything. This is why they take the side of our enemies so brazenly. It doesn’t always have to one shift or another, but any mix of them. To the anxious, this is goodness, compassion, tolerance and humility; it is a delusion, a necessary distortion of reality to survive psychologically; not for justice, but for their own psychic survival or coping with perceptions too painful to grapple with. Old wounds.
The Stockholm Syndrome is under-recognized often, as in cases of spousal abuse, etc. So are most defense mechanisms, such as isolation, for that matter.
To us, when it becomes political, it is destructive to the nation.
A lot of opinions explain the bizarre, puzzling, unAmerican behaviors of liberals and the Left with whom they identify (Stockholm Syndrome???) -- but this cannot be tolerated and still expect the nation to survive. It won’t survive if we have to adjust our way of life so widely in order to make room for false security, so-called equality, so-called nobility and tolerate undermining from within. Being pulled in two or more directions will... well, it will tear the nation apart.
This would not serve liberals who want to take down those painful symbols of their personal anxiety -- only couch time will do that. America, herself, is one such example that irks liberals and provokes their anxiety and moves them to action.
Michael Reagan said on his radio show that, more or less, Howie Dean should be hanged for treason. I concur in spirit, like the liberals concur with the Left, if it’s not illegal to bring an individual to justice and not be indicted for inciting to riot. I advocate due process above all, and if Dean can be detained justly, I’m all for it.
Under today’s conditions, why not? Out of control, incorrect, defamatory, screeching, anti-American... well you know those people.
When we’re at war as we are, undermining the nation’s resolve from within, lying about the majority opinion among other things, and defaming America is as obvious a destructive move on America as planting sleeper Nazis here in WW II. Well meaning, deluded or treasonous, what’s the difference?
America can no longer indulge such neurotic anger as an American Party.
The liberals are hardly different now from those who come here to destroy us. Liberals have no self-control because balming their anxiety comes first. At our expense. Impaired so, at the mercy of their passions, they simply cannot be trusted.
Whether they’re sick and pained or Congressmen paid by Saddam Hussein, they know only too well that they will bring the nation down, because in trying to survive – psychically, that is, as much as politically– the distortion of reality will justify it all to them.
This is why they wish to take down the country. They need to stop that old wound pain.
And that probably goes a very long way in explaining why the left in America, the so-called conscience of the People, seems to have positively no conscience at all at a time when we need every American in unity the most.
