A BAND OF BROTHERS

This document is published as a discussion piece for the men's movement. It proposes the formation of an international organisation for the purposes of advancing men's rights and rebuilding confidence in the male gender. Other aims include rolling back the tide of hate filled anti male bigotry that emanates from various organisations, political and business interests. The aims of the organisation are to become a real and united force for change, attracting a large membership and developing new and exciting ways to bring hope to men. Men who are facing an unwise onslaught against their rights and the character of the male gender as a whole, in an attempt to promote the rights of women.

The spirit of the organisation is to defend the family and those men and women who do not subscribe to radical feminism. The organisation would seek to reach out to men and children unaware that their rights are under attack. It would also seek to aid those women who object to suffering the demeaning and perpetual "victim" status imposed upon them by left wing feminist politics. With these aims in mind, it is to be hoped that the name of the organisation, if adopted by the men's movement, will reflect these aims.

It is with hope and excitement that I commend this discussion document to the men's movement and I look forward to a debate that will be both positive, imaginative and forward looking.

George Rolph.
London 2005.

The men's movement is made up of analogous groups all fighting their corners and, sometimes, fighting both with, and for, each other. Traditionally, it has been a kind of loose brotherhood, but there are growing signs that this is all changing. It is dawning on men in these groups, that the only way to be an effective force is to band together under an umbrella of co-ordinated management that knows what it is doing.

Some very fine and very able minds exist within the men’s movement. They have, however, been largely sidelined and unused. This is a terrible waste of resources and talent that is only now being addressed. The challenge, is to recruit and gather these minds into a cohesive and effective unit. A unit that will oversee the world wide men’s movement and turn it into a co-operative and surgical force for change, by careful use of all of the available talents.

Within the men’s movement itself there are a multitude of talents available with which to form a management control team. We have authors, politicians, lawyers, web designers, programmers, fund raisers, journalists, doctors, managers and CEO’s, academics of all kinds and many other skilled individuals. The advances in communication technology now available, mean that this MCT (Management Control Team) can be in different countries, towns and cities and yet meet regularly to plan out projects, ideas and tactics. Beneath them, a whole hierarchy of departments around the world will be created to make powerful use of available local men and their groups. So pulling all the various elements together into one fighting unit. Imagine a situation for example, where all the various equal parenting groups around the world are working together to a fixed plan of action, instead of working separately to their own agendas. Suddenly, the powers-that-be would be faced with a large body of committed, expert people, all demanding change with one voice, working country by country around the world.

Can it be done?

The answer to this question is that it MUST be done. There is no choice. The many foes of men in this day of cut throat politics, in which the lie has become more important than the truth, demands a men's movement large enough, co-ordinated enough and powerful enough to speak with one voice on many fronts. This can only be achieved by careful planning by the best minds on offer within the movement. To this end, the first priority must be to recruit a like minded management team from around the world, who are able to resist the temptation to fall out over minor disagreements for the good of the whole movement.

Such a team would have to be carefully and expertly vetted. It is vital that no fifth columnists from the “enemy” camp are able to infiltrate and disrupt or, in any other way, harm the aims of the movement. In turn, this means that only those with a proven track record of work for men's rights will be allowed onto the team in the first instance. The team will be chosen by secret ballot to ensure that no one group is able to exert any unfair influence concerning members of the team. All MCT members will be subject to a performance review, by their peers, at 6 monthly intervals for the first two years and then yearly intervals thereafter.

The Hierarchy.

Beneath the management control team will be a hierarchical structure designed to maximise the impact of the various skills, knowledge and research on offer to the men’s movement. This second level structure will be comprised of:-

A Data Gathering And Research Department.
Media Spokesmen And Public Relations Department.
A Fund Raising Department.
A Legal Team.
A Political Department.
A Public Education Unit.
An Activists Control Unit.
A Sales And Marketing Department.
A Computer Department.
A Spiritual Care Department.
A publications Department.
A Financial Control Department
A Recruitment and Youth Education Unit.

Other units or departments will be added as the need arises and all will be overseen by the management control team, whose job will be to co-ordinate the various levels on the hierarchy ladder and maintain control and co-operation between them. The MCT will also have the vital task of understanding the cultural differences in the various countries that men’s groups are working in. By this I mean that, for example; while it may be perfectly legal in Britain to have men scale tall buildings dressed as Batman, in certain states of America, or in less enlightened cultures, such an action may be not only illegal, but could also get you shot. The MCT will have to work out strategies based upon what is an acceptable risk for our activists to undertake. At the same time, it must also be faced that the time may come when it will be necessary to break the law in order to get it changed. As happened when blacks entered whites only buildings and vehicles during segregation in the southern states of America in the 60’s.

It is envisioned that eventually, every western country on earth will have it’s own structure based upon the model shown above, but all answerable to a central control (The MCT).

How Do We Get In?

Men’s groups will enter the structure by subscription, probation and contract arrangements and will thus have a vested interest in keeping to the rules. Any who do not keep to the rules will receive a warning about their conduct and then face dismissal, unless the behaviour is modified. They will also forfeit the right to access any of the information, research, funding or other benefits that come with membership. Thus effectively isolating themselves.

How Is It All Funded?

One of the great drawbacks of the men's movement is the incoherent way in which funding the various projects out there has been achieved, or not achieved, as the case may be. Some groups have shown wonderful initiative and have been very successful in raising money. Others have tried asking governments to fund the groups that are attacking their policies and have failed, unsurprisingly. Many groups have approached charities and sought donations with varying degrees of success and failure. Others raise money by subscriptions from their members. Some try all the various options including, turning their activities into a business by selling services and merchandise.

The new organisation will explore all of the viable options available but will focus, primarily, on raising money through imaginative and legal business activities. Businessmen within the organisation and who profit from it, will be expected to pay a commission from their profits. Businessmen on the outside of the organisation will be encouraged to offer services and money in return for advertising opportunities for example.

Other creative avenues of offsetting expenses will also be explored. As an example; we can seek donations of used computer equipment from large companies which can then be distributed to countries and organisations unable to afford to purchase expensive technology. The rest can be reconditioned and resold in the market place.

Any and all realistic means of creating revenue will be explored.

Organisations wishing to join us will pay a yearly subscription.

The aim is to make the organisation, not only self sufficient and therefore not reliant upon government or charitable funding, but also able to make a profit that will be invested in making the organisation grow and expand. Initially, most people working within the organisation will be volunteers. As profits mount, a proper pay structure will be set up for those who work for us on a full time basis.

The Outcome.

In effect we are creating a civilian army with the intention of redressing the balance of men’s rights around the world and calling to the worlds attention those things which men are adversely and unjustly affected by. I submit that the time is right to prepare this organisation and structure and to begin recruiting members and workers, for the most exciting project ever faced in the modern history of the male race. It is an organisation that could have far reaching and historic consequences for our future fathers and sons. It is also an organisation that can turn a rag tag army into a disciplined and effective fighting force for the good of men world wide and, in doing so, it’s members shall become the single most unified, protected and powerful band of brothers the planet has ever seen.

Hi George,

I see we have a few folks tired of moping around and venting on keyboards.

I am a co-founder/former secretary of ACFC, former secretary of NCFC, and organized the three largest protests in the history of the mens movement (the largest was the Bridges for Children protest held in over 225 cities around the world on fathers day 2001). We got legislation passed in Missouri that others only dream about, by playing hardball politics and taking a pro-family, pro woman stance.

Trudy is right, we have to play hardball politics. We have to raise money. We have to educate young men and married men about the reality that half of them will get booted out of the family. We have to restore a sense of male kinship (not the man show, sports fanatic, chauvinist kind), and bring all those blind feminist men back to reality. This must necessarily have a major component on college campuses, from which all social change takes place.

As organizers, we must adopt the most effective political initiatives (the marriage movement is the best place to accomplish this because nobody can doubt it). This changes the battleground to turf that feminists can't use the emotional invectives that are so successful scaring folks from listening to the mens movement.

We must develop an online coordination center that can direct protests anyplace, anytime to go after politicians who do the wrong thing.

We need to have the best/brightest movers and shakers planning things very quietly so feminists don't know what's coming.

I have the plan for a major marriage movement organization, which will operate independently of everything else, where the "white hat" guys (scientists, mainstream writers, attorneys, and mainstream advocates) can work from to take policy initiatives to Congress and the legislatures. We need to start this and find an angel (this will be someone who is aware that the existing marriage movement is a Blankenhorn lie; one who realizes that we can only change laws by coming up with policy that will replace antifamily government policy with policy that generally helps spouses to work through the normal processes of marriage and aging, and expects marital responsibility).

Caveat: I have seen many well-meaning men's advocates attempt to launch a major organization. They have always failed in the past for various reasons: 1. An inability to come up with a politically-feasible mainstream plan. 2. An inability to stop planning and execute the plan 3. Interference by lawyers or feminists co-opting the organization 4. An inability to realize that both street-level activists and "guys with white hats" must be recognized and coordinated to accomplish change 5. Folks expect change to come too fast, and either give up or start blaming each other 6. Investing all resources in major constitutional litigation that goes nowhere (because the attitudes are not yet in place). 7. An inability to convince conservatives, libertarians, and mainstream women that what we want to do will give them what they want and need. 8. An inability to involve the religious community proactively, while working these issues in the secular world (hint: it must be spiritually-based, but not preaching the bible in the secular world). 9. An inability to find a mainstreamable "leader" capable of directing the movement and taking visionary messages to the media. This does not have to be somebody in the men's movement -- perhaps somebody like Tony Perkins, who has a track record, already knows the political ropes and knows what is really ruining the family in America. Years ago, I had hoped Warren Farrell would step up to this, but he wasn't interested. We truly need someone who has the experience, drive, and skillset to make it happen.

I'm a doer, and don't want to spend lots of time banging on keyboards. We know the problem, all we have to do here is organize it and make it happen.

Much of this planning must necessarily be done offline. Perhaps we should talk privately by phone.
