FRIST TO DEMS: BEHAVE OR IT’S ‘NUCLEAR’!!

J. Grant Swank, Jr.

Thank God Senate Majority leader Bill Frist is not wilting to the so-called "deal" regarding filibusters.

What the stalwart Republicans need to do to counter the Judas Republicans is stand firm against filibustering into the future. In other words, negate the "deal" by plowing ahead for the "nuclear option" for a reasonable citizen can never expect the "deal" to work. It’s loaded with landmines.

Eventually, and the sooner the wiser, the Republicans In Name Only (RINOs) will be put to shame for ever turning against their fellow Republicans and US President George W. Bush. With egg on their faces, they will be forced to admit that their betrayal served America no good and served them up with obvious embarrassment. Hopefully, it will yield a voting public seeing that they never return to office.

Charles Hurt reports in The Washington Times that "Texas Supreme Court Justice Priscilla Owen was confirmed to a federal appeals court seat yesterday as Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist declared victory and reminded Democrats that if they ‘abuse’ the judicial filibuster again, he will employ the so-called ‘nuclear option.’"

There is simply no way that the US Senate can mannerly continue into the ongoing future without their being one major fuss over what’s appropriate for a filibuster and what’s not. That’s where the Dems along with seven renegade Republicans made their big time misjudgment.

One can expect that of the Dems for they have not produced a rational anything in the last several years. But to actually have to face up to the reality that seven Republicans left their party’s stronghold to side in with the horrific opposition is unbelievable. All the more that Frist must continue to bang the gong that the "nuclear option" will be on the hot front burner if there is one misstep.

"’I am now hopeful, but wary,’ Mr. Frist said of the truce reached Monday night, just hours before he planned to eliminate the judicial filibuster with what he calls the ‘constitutional option.’"

Well, that was quite politically polite of Frist to say he was "’hopeful.’" Of course he’s not hopeful at all, not when he works night and day with the wily Dems and now has uncovered the turncoat Republicans.

If anyone realizes the stark reality of that fight going on in the US Senate over the filibuster, it’s Frist. One can imagine that his hope, if any hope actually remains in his heart, is quite thin. Nevertheless, to be a politically nice guy, he expresses hope. The rest of us bunk hope as totally unreal.

"’If nominees receive up-or-down votes and the sword of the filibuster is sheathed, then the Republican leadership can be proud that its focused direction on the constitutional option arrested a dangerous and destructive trend,’ Mr. Frist said. ‘If filibusters again erupt under circumstances other than extraordinary, we will put the constitutional option back on the table and move to implement it.’"

What a way with words! Terrific.

Now all America needs to be apprised of is that what Frist set forth is kept tidily in place. The slightest move to misuse the filibuster should yield a totally bonded Republican Senate majority against one of the worst "traditions" in Congress — the filibuster.

It’s a waste of time, money and energy. It’s an embarrassment in dialogue to the Senate. It’s a childish exercise reminiscent of a day care center gone mad.
