BUYING DRUGS FROM CANADA UNAMERICAN?

J. Grant Swank, Jr.

Such a fuss over Americans getting a deal on their pharmaceutical purchases coming from Canada. Is it that awful? Is it truly unAmerican?

Not to me.

If one can get a Canadian bargain, go for it. I’m all the more in favor of it for I live there in Nova Scotia part of each year. Hurrah for both the American and Canadian flags. I fly them both.

As for the logic in this whole spectrum, what about Americans moving their factories to Mexico and then claiming it’s a free market. Are we giving static to Mexico? Are we giving grief to those American companies? I don’t think so.

Further, what about a toy company that can out source to a Chinese subcontractor and claim it’s a free market. What’s okay with that and not okay with those of us in the US coming upon a good deal with Canada pharmacy hook ups?

In addition, a major bank can incorporate in Bermuda to avoid taxes and then claim it’s a free market. No legit drug buy across the American and Canadian borders, however. Why not?

Then there are the HP Printers made in Mexico. What about the shirts manufactured in Bangladesh?

Those of us fortunate enough to live in the United States can purchase practically anything we want from 20-plus countries. However, if we who are called "elderly" dare buy prescription drugs from a Canadian pharmacy, we’re looked upon as second-class citizens. No more red, white and blue for us.

But those of us who have lived a few years in this grand country know that the reason is on our side. We are not unAmerican. We are not unpatriotic. We are not grubby and grabby and forgetting where our allegiance lies.

It’s because of the unAmerican pharmaceutical companies who maintain their powerful lobby that we decent citizens are being blackballed for a pharmaceutical bargain.

Once again the villain is the innocent party and the innocent party is the villain. Not fair. Not good. Now logical.
