Islamic Prayer Demanded in US Workplace

In a time when all vestiges of Christianity are being attacked by the Left and their legal representative, the ACLU, the Islamic organization CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) is demanding Muslim prayer-time be allowed in the US workplace and that employers must make accommodations for it. CAIR’s Legal Director Arsalan Iftikhar even had the audacity and arrogance to say: “Given sufficient ‘goodwill’ on the part of all those involved, both the employees’ legal right to reasonable religious accommodation and the employer’s right to maintain smooth operations in the workplace can be maintained.” Huh?

Christianity, the majority religion in the United States, is not allowed even to be spoken of in the workplace, schools and (increasingly) in any public places. Yet, in public schools it is now required that Islam (as a “religion”) be taught and Christianity be denied. Are the Left and the ACLU going to back this additional Islamic lunacy? Will workplace Islamic prayer sessions be required of employers and employees, while Christianity is not only disallowed but, shunned?

The latest example of the Islamic movement’s “Muslim prayer at work” occurred at a Dell Computers facility in Nashville, TN. Thirty Muslim workers insisted upon taking Islamic prayer time, during their work shifts and while on the job. The company said “No” as its not legally allowed. The Muslim workers walked off the job and Dell fired them. End of story? Not by a long shot.

Using Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which requires an employer to accommodate religious practices unless it causes an “undue hardship”, CAIR legal director Iftikhar sent a letter to Dell’s CEO Kevin B. Rollins advising him that the Muslim workers must be rehired pending resolution of the issues involved. Now, that’s a good trick. If Title VII can be used by the Muslims, why didn’t Christians think of it.? Of course, the answer is that the ACLU rules against Christians virtually each and every time they attempt to exert their religious freedoms. Certainly, another looming question is: “Will the ACLU fight as hard for the Muslims as they did (and do) against the Christians?” Only time will tell. However, if Dell Computers agrees to the Islamic demands, Christians should be fully prepared to have their religious rights “reinstated”.

I encourage all Christians to keep close tabs on this situation. It’s imperative that we all vigilantly remain on-watch. Otherwise, we will be waked up one morning in the not-too-distant future, to the strains of a mandatory call to prayer.

The ACLU will support the Muslims as the situation can successfully be argued as a religious accomodation case. The same cannot be said for Christians in the same situation. While the same conditions exist, the political climate in the judiciary causes a Christian complaint to be seen as a de facto "establishment clause" case. These generally go against Christians. Also, as the complaint comes from a "majority" religion as opposed to a "minority" religion, the courts are more likely to agree with a decision that sends a message of tolerance and diversity. In other words, Judeo-Christian culture can take a backseat to Islamic values.

Preference of one religion (in this case Islam) over another (Christian), whether or not it can be argued that Christianity is the "majority" religion, is not allowed under the US Constitution. In this case, if Islamic rights to prayer in the workplace are upheld and Christian rights are denied, a case against "establishment of religion" can correctly be made. If the US Constitution is actually followed, Christian rights will also prevail. An applied Title VII argument, if Christian attorneys will pursue it, is equally applicable to Christians as it is to Muslims.

Are you serious? You cannot be elected to political office in the United States without being a Christian. you call this attacks on Christians? Christians and Muslims need to keep their religious beliefs out of the workplace and the schools.

The probem is that Islam is now being PUSHED in public schools (and Christianity is NOT allowed) and, now, apparently will be pushed in the workplace. I agree that if Christianity is not allowed in these areas, so should Islam be disallowed!

I am afraid I wake up one day and people telling me Tennessee is an Islamic state. Has an Islamic laws and they share the government persecute Christians. I am wondering who caused all of this or until when, I think they are using black people in perfect way. I do not know how they convince black people. But more black people believe in their color and keep support other Black Muslim people who come from Africa it could be worst than this.

The leftist/atheist mental midgets have aligned themselves with the Islamists. They will do anything to get rid of Christianity! These poor boobs don't get it. They will be murdered just as quickly, by the Islamo-fascists, as are the Christians. Idiots!

Some of you people really sicken me. Islam is a religion of "them there black folk, not us whites from the Bible Belt".... Islam is a global religion like Christianity; it embraces all people, races and nationalities. An American Muslim can be white, black, Middle Eastern, Native American, Asian or anything else. And just as patriotic as you or I. One wonders how you would act if your children or grandchildren converted (which will happen, because people are going to wake up and turn away from hard core fundamentalist Christianity).

But I digress. I fail to see whats wrong here. Salat, the five prayers, is a major part of Islam. Some Muslims want the right to practice this without loosing their job. Sounds fair to me. Islam is NOT pushed in the schools, and it shouldn't be. Religion should be taught from the home or place of worship. If Islam was pushed, do you think you'd see all the drug use and group sex that were so prevalent amongst the "jocks" and "yuppies" in high school? I should know, my youngest brother still goes to high school.

Islam most certainly IS pushed in public schools! In Northern California students have been failed if they can't name and describe the 7 Pillars of Islam. Students are ALSO required to dress as Muslims and have "faux practice" of Islam during Ramadan. On the flip side any mention of Christianity in the schools, unless its in a degradory sense, it NOT allowed. Islam WILL spread, as it is doing now, across the US and into ALL public schools. The above poster says: "people are going to wake up and turn away from hard core fundamentalist Christianity." Hard core??? What in the world are you thinking? Not only is this a ludicrous statement but, it is paganistic Islam that is "hard core". They're the ones who behead people, not Christians, while their "moderate" brethren sit back and do and say nothing.

You fail to see what's wrong with Muslim prayers at the workplace? After reading about Salat, I see that the prayers are to be said at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset, and nightfall. This includes time for washing hands, face, head and feet. The first could take place before the workday, the noon could take place during lunch break, but the mid-afternoon prayer would take place during company time. And possibly, depending on where you live, the sunset prayer could also take place durng company time. During daylight savings time, the sun sets quite early. The only way I would approve of this is if the employee were to ring out and do it on his/her own time. There is no reason a company should have to pay an employee for time spent praying. At any rate, there are many circumstances where this is impractical. For example, in factory work..... If you are working on an assembly line, are you to be allowed to just walk away to do prayers? I don't think so. How about if you are a clerk in a store, or a server in a restaurant? Should you be able to leave your customers waiting while you say prayers? What if you're in a business meeting? Does everyone have to wait while you go say prayers? The whole idea is preposterous.

Let me give you an example of accomodating Muslims where I work. I happen to work in a factory where a Muslim woman wears traditional Muslim garb. We work around chemicals and in our dress code, dresses or shorts are forbidden for safety reasons. Yet she is allowed to wear what she wants. Her skirts could get tangled in machinery or she could get chemical burns if an accident happened. What if she's injured on the job? I suppose she will be entitled to a big settlement. But our employer is afraid of a discrimination lawsuit. Why do Muslims think they are entitled to special treatment?

Being Muslim in America post-9/11 should IMO be viewed as being an admitted member of the Nazi Party was percieved in 1942. No one who did the latter could expect to be permitted to run around loose in America in a time of war, and rightly so.

Frankly, being Muslim should be considered incompatible with U.S. residency or citizenship. Pick one of the above; you can't have both. This applies to native-born converts as well as explosives-carrying ragheads straight from Saudi/Pakistani "kill all the infidels NOW" madrassahs, of course.

It's beyond any form of sanity that the leftist atheists try to destroy Christianity and Christians at every opportunity (does anyone remember the Repent America "Philadelphia 11"?) and, then, turn around and support Islam that has vowed to kill ALL non-Muslims; using the Quran as their source and excuse. That means you leftists will be murdered too! What's wrong with you people? Are you completely suicidal?

Unfortunately the majority of non-Muslims do not know enough about the Muslim faith to counter these demands made by Muslims. There is absolutely no reason to allow Muslims to pray at work. The Hadith and Sharia allow for those Muslims living in a non-Muslim country or in a country not under Sharia (Islamic Law) to postpone their prayers to a later time.
This siutation as Dell has NOTHING to do with being tolerant or accomodating to Muslims, but rather it is a POLITICAL statement to push the Western legal system to mandate non-Muslim tolerance (read aceptance) of all things Muslims in the name of tolerance and diverisity.
Unfortunately for non-Muslims, Muslims do not feel this need of "tolerance" (meaning acceptance)for things non-Muslim.
For non-Muslims, just try this in Iran, Saudia Arabia, Egypt, Indonesia....and find out just how far it would be accepted.
Until Non-Muslims are willing to educate themselves about Islam and are willing to stand up for their RIGHTS and for their TRUTH, more and more of the Western system of individual rights will be eroded by the likes of CAIR and Muslims pushing for their Islamic Agenda.

" The leftist/atheist mental midgets have aligned themselves with the Islamists."

You mean "radical islamists".
I think it's because the terrorists have stepped in to speed up the lefts "hate America, push Israel into the sea, no christianity allowed, destroy the American family, etc." agenda. And they're all too happy for it to be look-the-other-way days.
They just had the march against terrorism rally (which barely made a blip on most news casts in the run up to it)The turn out was like 50 people! Where ARE all the moderates we keep hearing about? I'd really like to hear from them. Meanwhile people have already starting to trip over themselves for the "new" Bribe (live) Aid! pathetic.
Mugabe is razing mosques in africa, but he also does it to churches. Do we hear much about it? No. The left figures a few mosques will probably have to take a hit.
The question is: Which one will win out, Sharia Law or the socialist left? Remember when they demanded the call to prayers be blasted in Dearborn?, michigan?
