If It’s Stupid or Lazy, It Must Be Male

I've commented on numerous occasions about the way editorial cartoonists use men as the default for bad in their cartoons. The cartoon above is not sexist in and of itself, but I can't help but notice that there are three "bad" figures--the one who doesn't want to send the kids to school, the one too lazy to plant a tree, and the one too stupid to get a 401K--and, no surprise, all three are male.
There aren't short-sighted women? There aren't women who'd rather lay on a hammock (or the couch) rather than go do yard work? There aren't women who'd rather spend their money than save it for their retirement? I'd like to see some balance here.
The cartoon is by Glenn McCoy, who has twice been named the Magazine Cartoonist of the Year.
