William Coleman

William Coleman's case has been sporadically before the public for several years.  He was a soccer coach at the college level in Connecticut.  In 2002, in the middle of his "acrimonious" divorce and custody case, his wife accused him of rape.  There was no physical evidence of rape and she delayed reporting it to the police because she "felt trapped."  Coleman has always adamantly denied the claim.  But he was convicted anyway and given eight years inside.

Now he's more adamant than ever.  He's been on a hunger strike for 16 months to protest corruption in the judicial system.  He says he doesn't want to die, but will if necessary.

I wasn't there; I don't know what happened between Coleman and his wife, if anything.  But here's a guy who's always claimed his innocence, a case based entirely on the say-so of the ex-wife, no physical evidence of rape, delayed reporting of the "rape," a transparent motivation to lie by the ex and a willingness on the part of the condemned man to die rather than do an 8-year bit.
