DV Service Refuses State Money Rather Than Help Men

"It is bureaucracy gone totally insane."

That's how domestic violence volunteer Pat Gaunt described orders from the Community Services Department of Brisbane, Australia to serve male victims of DV.  Apparently the "Central Coast domestic violence intervention response team" has opted to simply stop providing services to anyone rather than serve a single man.

Its constitution forbids it from providing services to males and, when the Community Services Department began requiring that it do so, its management committee unanimously voted to cease operations.

This article on the subject makes no mention of why the organization didn't amend its constitution to allow it to serve men (Express-Advocate, 1/29/09).
