Army Sergeant seeks custody of daughter after abuse allegations
Chicago, IL — Chris Macharrie is used to rescuing strangers. He is a U.S. Army Sergeant, 1st Class, Bravo Company, Division Special Troops Battalion, on his second tour of duty in Iraq.
Though saving people is his business, he never thought that he would have to rescue his own twelve-year-old daughter from the home of his allegedly abusive ex-wife.
Sergeant Macharrie’s ex-wife has had custody of their daughter since their divorce in 1997. The abuse allegedly started over a year ago.
Cook County court records indicated that the twelve- year-old had been allegedly abused both verbally and physically by her mother.
Sergeant Macharrie claims that his daughter was also forbidden to contact him. ”My daughter started sneaking telephone calls to me,” said Macharrie. “She told me that she was either going to run away or kill herself if I didn’t come rescue her.”
The Military granted Sergeant Macharrie special permission to leave Iraq and come to the aid of his daughter.
Cook County Judge Santiago will decide this Thursday, March 26 at 9:30am, in the Richard J. Daley Center Courtroom, whether to grant an order of protection, giving Macharrie custody of his daughter, and the right to take her to his home in New York.
Sergeant Chris Macharrie is represented by attorneys Jeffery M. Leving and Timothy O’Grady of the Fathers’ Rights Law Firm, Jeffery M. Leving, Ltd.
“This man is a hero who puts his life on the line every day. He needs to have the peace of mind that his daughter is safe in her own home,” said attorney Jeffery M. Leving.

I think this is the ultimate love and sacrifice a father can do. We should support our soldiers and learn from our mistakes. It is wonderful to see people applause our troops comming of planes at airports. This soldier should have a follow up to see how his battle plays out here in the States. His ex-father-in-law and mother-in-law supports him in his battle.
