Action Needed Immediately: Pelosi rushing massive energy tax through congress!
June 25, 2009 – Eagle Forum
As the House floor vote on the Waxman-Markey cap-and-tax bill approaches, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and her Liberal leaders are still unsure if they have enough votes to pass their national household energy tax.
Your calls of opposition are so effective that President Obama himself is rumored to be making calls to Members of Congress in an effort to persuade them to vote for the bill. Even liberals have acknowledged that this bill is, in fact, a huge tax on American families:
“Whether you call it a tax, everyone agrees that it’s going to increase the cost to the consumer. At the end of the day . . . if there’s nothing there to repay [consumers] for their financial expenditures, it might be difficult to fight Republicans who call this a tax.”
— Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY), Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, quoted in Congress Daily, May 14, 2009.
“Nobody in this country realizes that cap-and-trade is a tax, and it’s a great big one.”
— Rep. John Dingell (D-MI), House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing, comment addressed to former Vice President Al Gore, April 24, 2009.
Even worse, over the past few days, the so-called American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, H.R. 2998 (please note the new bill number) has expanded to a whopping 1,201 pages! It looks as though we are facing yet another stimulus-like, hasty vote on a bill which no Member of Congress will have time to read.
The floor vote is expected to occur Friday, June 26th. Please continue contacting your Representative’s Capitol Hill and district offices and tell them that you oppose the Waxman-Markey cap-and-tax!
