- Amy Alkon on MND / The Price Of A Ham Sandwich Has Also Gone Up - Redrajesh - Most college education is crap and only serves to provide employment to profs. It is high time college is not overrated the way it is so that the nutcase profs don't think so highly about themselves. Most prof's are also vastly overpaid and probably don't deserve to get even 1/3rd of what they are paid. Universities also indulge in vast overspending on infrastructure which provides no academic value add and the costs of all these expenses is passed on to the students who derive no benefit out of it. Until universities scale down their useless expenses and eliminate waste, they have no right to pass on higher fess to students. And corporates could also help by not insisting on college degrees for jobs like mail sorter and executive assistant so that people do not unnecessarily waste their time and money on something which is of no use to them.
- Amy Alkon on MND / The Price Of A Ham Sandwich Has Also Gone Up - Jack Dumas - Everyone hate taxes, but if California had not had all those tax freezes, they could pay for this instead they decide to keep taxes low which benefit the rich much more than than poor. The problem that California has right now is because their taxes were too low for too long, to little revenue, and having to do thing cheaply, with poor quality. Basically, trying to save a buck today by not doing proper maintenance will cost you many times that amount when the thing breaks earlier than it should and has to be repaired. This has been the conservative philosophy for years and all in the name of fiscal responsibility. Thanks for bringing the country down with ideologies. Having been a republican for most of the last decades, I no longer believe this crap. Rich people do not care if they run the country into the ground as long as they keep on being rich. They seem to find people like Joe the plumber and I guess you (and formerly me I am ashamed to say) to support them in their greed by telling the people at the bottom of the economical scale, too bad, we are subsiding you enough already.

This will ensure, that the other countries that do subsidize their university to a higher degree and are better at converting their human potential to something valuable will pass America, and I believe this will happen during our life time. American like to think that they have the best university, but that is only because America was a rich country with a big population and the fact that the other countries were so behind. America could afford to was the human potential of the masses and still have enough left over to beat the competition. Now the competition is much stronger, less wasteful of human potential, and getting stronger every year. Unfortunately Americans are not good about world news, so we still cling to our glory days and don't notice how quickly the other are catching up and even passing us.

During that same time middle class wages have been most stagnant. America success is now based on the success of the rich, sure, some people might look at the fact that American companies are all over the globe and look at that as a measure of American power and can use this fact as an excuse to say we are not declining. But the truth is that the money does not make it to regular American. Many of those American companies have bigger foreign payroll than American one.
- Amy Alkon on MND / The Price Of A Ham Sandwich Has Also Gone Up - Jack Dumas - It used to be that American could afford to waste the talent of their population, after all, America has more than 3 times the population of the biggest European Country, and the countries with bigger populations (China and India) could not match the American level of technology and education. This has now changed, and we are starting to see the effect now. By saying to hell with people that can't afford college, which is most of the middle class, we are wasting the human resources big time. Not all people should go to university, but frankly universities need all the people that have the ability to complete it. By excluding people based on income, America is generating its own brain drain.

If I steal a car - I get charged with GTA.
If someone tells me it's THEIR car (lies about the age), and hands me the keys (drugs some girl), and then I get pulled over - ummm, can you see a jury convicting me? Or if not jury nullification - at least dismissing most of the charges.
That said, the woman was could easily be charged with aiding and abbetting, conspiracy, engaging in the production of child porn, and a host of other charges.
If I had been on that jury - NULLIFICATION.

Hence, the chances of govt. workers being more likely to commit mass violence. Plus, govt. anyway encourages lower quality people to stay on since it gets free money from the private sector which has to actually shake things up in order to survive. Hence, lower quality people who get into govt. continue to stay there unlike in the private sector where they are more accountable and get filtered out later if not sooner.
- Amy Alkon on MND / Obama Thinks Medicare Is A Model For Reform - mfraser29 - This article is nonsense. Sounds like the author is on the AMA payroll. She claims "Medicare is going bankrupt"---- then argues for why Medicare needs to pay MORE! Brilliant. I particularly like the quote from the doctor who says: "It costs me $300 an hour to be open." Really? $48K a month? Would he care to open his books? Of course not. Either he's paying himself way too much or you can't run a practice. Either way, stop whining like you're a victim. Also, let's not forget that, for the most part, doctors are paid by taxpayers (Medicare/Medicaid) or businesses that pay their employees health insurance----often in lieu of giving raises. Something's got to change or the current, for-big-profit system will bankrupt us all----and doctors will still claim to be underpaid.

I wonder if these "journalists" get paid for this fluff. It's sad that the real stories about Kaiser aren't published because articles like this are consuming everyone's time and attention. Also worth noting is that Kaiser lacks outbound dialing capabilities in its contact centers. The inconsistency (was it the doctor or the nurse who called?) should make one question the entire posting.
